What stuff do you need to mount Poly?
I saw KK's kayak the other day, man that's one big arse yak, you could spend $1000s fitting that out.
poly
Fed, 2 rod holder forward, for trolling to start with, then whenI get a sounder I will need a mount for that plus possum thinks a safety flag would be a good idea as the yaks are dark green in color and very low profile

Paul

P.S. the yaks are Hobie quest's at 13ft in length

possum's new yak

thats a big hole

it will take a lot of fish to fill this one

just left laying around

Had my yak for a year and a half poly, still tinkering. So far have added sounder, 2 extra rod holders(have 2 at the sides and 2 rear for trolling/storage), extra bungy straps at side for rod storage, larger rear hatch for battery, home made mount for 55lb electric, cord and clips for rods.

Spend a bit of time on the water fishing and you will soon sort out what you need to take and where it is convenient to have it close to hand.

Poly. I would suggest the first thing you add to it is the flag, as jason said, use it a couple of times and you will work out where to fit everything.
Those accessories look tempting, but don't get sucked into buying stuff you will never use.
How easy is it to gain access to inner panels for fastening nuts onto bolts ?, don't use screws.

So you don't have to paddle Poly, KK's Yak will take a sail but it's got me beat how they work without a keel unless you can only go downwind with them.

What do you do if you fall over, can you get back in or do you have to go to the shore & start again.

I have to say it's not my kind of boating.

How do you pee, I think standing up would tricky and shooting over the side from a sitting position although funny would surely be a disaster. What about the Missus? YIKES! Secret Women's Business.

As far as your deck fittings go I'd wait until I'd used it quite a few times before screwing on any extra junk aside from the safety flag, I'd even try & jury rig that for a while.

Fed this is one way to fit a motor but it may be a bit on the expensive side

http://www.extremewatersports.com.au/displ...p?pc=ULTRALIGHT

the vorter dx3 would be much cheaper at $239au but how to fix it to the yak that is the question

Fed
Now I see it Poly, they have drop down keels so they can tack into the wind.
poly
I have started to pimp up the first of the yaks, as you know by the other thread I have been trying to get on to Scotty rod holders so possum decided to go with a single for now.
The only type on sale was the Hobie brand,, gues what,, they are made by Scotty, but that's ok

mate I can see what you are thinking, and if I were to fish in the one place all the time you would be right to think that way.
On May 9 possum will be heading down to Victoria were we will fish Lake Victoria and Port Albert so a g.p.s will be handy

this is the type of fish finder that would be fitted to most yaks, some how I don't think they would be much good, what do the members think

* Physical: dimensions - 147 x 108 x 66 mm, water resistance - IPX7 [sealed and waterproof]
* Display: type - 4-Level Grayscale SuperTwist Mono LCD, size - 4" / 102 mm [diagonal], resolution - 240 x 160 px, backlight - white LED
* Transducer: output - 100 W [RMS] / 800 W [Peak], frequency - 200 kHz, cone angle - 60 degrees, depth - 600 ft / 183 m / 100 fathoms, temperature - yes, speed - yes [requires optional speed sensor]
* Mount: unit - bracket / in-dash, transducer - transom / in-hull

Jeez Poly these yaks are starting to get out of hand. Go & buy a Seafarer Viking, you know you want to.

we do intend to fish offshore J.G.and i like to be a bit different to the run of the mill yak fisho's so we will most likely buy a Lowrance mark 5x DSI they can be bought for as little as $400.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/LOWRANCE-MARK-5X-DS...=item3366aa0168

the hummingbird 570DI will be worth a closer look as well, I have not been able to find a price on them yet

http://store.humminbird.com/products/415375/570_DI

the only worrisome thing about these sounder's is the amount of power that they will use as i will most likely be using a 7amp hour battery.
I will have to do a lot more research before parting with my money

the only other sounder worth looking at is the hummingbird 365i gps

http://store.humminbird.com/products/307117/365i_Combo

I would like to here what you all think about these sounders, to bad the old lead lines have gone out of fashion a stone tied to a piece of string wont work to well ether

Paul
kkw
Pol. the 365Xi (365i) is around $590 and the 570x (not 570di) is around $390 from the place I got my plastic boat from. Price will be better than that I imagine.
Fed
My previous boat came with a poverty pack Eagle (Lowrance) fishfinder Poly, I suspect it was the very bottom of the line and it was fine mate. Very easy to use with all the usual bells & whistles.

If I was you I'd go for the X-4 Pro with the dual frequency transducer & 188 Watts RMS power all for the bargain price of $169 at BIAS.

At 650mA you could count on at least half a day on your 7AH battery Poly, maybe even a bit more.

Thanks for that Fed, but what dose the ma stand for and how would i relate it to amp hours

the reason for a sealed 7am hour battery is the fact it can be carried in a dry bag and stowed inside the yak

Paul
Fed
The sounder draws 650mA or 0.65 Amps which is a little over half an Amp.

Your battery is supposed to be good for 7 Amp Hours which is 7 Amps for one Hour or 1 Amp for 7 Hours or any combination that adds up to 7Amp Hours if that makes sense.

With those numbers you should be able to draw 0.65 Amps for a bit over 10 Hours but as the battery goes down it won't be much good below about 12 Volts so that's why I said you could count on half a day or maybe a little more.

We don't know if that 650mA is with the light on either, if it is then without the screen light it may draw a lot less than that.

now i am starting to understand how the thing works from a voltage point of view so to make thing even harder i have just called hunts marine about the Furuno LS4100 and they tell me it needs 40wats ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR Fed can you help

I'll google the specs on the 4100 and get back to you.

QUOTE
Power Requirements

12 VDC, 6 Watts

Power = Volts X Amps
6 Watts = 12 Volts X 0.5 Amps

So the Furuno draws slightly less power than the Hummingbird.

I think Furuno make the best stuff and my only complaint I've ever had is my Furuno GPS is a little hard to use the menu system but that could be ME too.
I used to love my old FE400 sounder, 1 power knob & 1 range knob, too easy but my Furuno GPS is doing my brain in.
