On Day Release Options

Jacko has been sitting around all morning, studying. He is 5 weeks behind, so needs to catch up. Anyway, I said at 2pm, that I was going down to Jibbon for a look and maybe throw in a line. He said, "can I come?" I rigged up one of my beach rods for him and took my nigger rod and Avon reel - "proper" blackfish gear - for myself.

Had to rig the bobby cork and set the depth for Chris, then bait his hook, then cast it out for him. Told him how to watch the line and not get too much belly in it, and feed it out as the wash is ebbing etc. Saw his bobby cork 'wham!!!' disappear and siad, "well are you going to strike?" He had hooked his first Luderick and it was going like a steam train. I coached him through it, and explained how to wash it up in the swell. A good start. "You're on your own now Jacko", so off I went to rig my gear.

Must have been a stray, I thought, as we didn't get another down for 15 mins. Then I hooked a nice one which took a bit to land. The tide was coming in and the fish were just starting to respond to the burley I had scraped in. Chris had to go, as we needed to pick his car up at Hurstville. An hour and a half, for 3 fish and we left them biting. Think I may have to go again tomorrow Chris is busy - he has to study

Had to loan him some cleats. My sneakers were a couple of sizes too big for him, but beggars can't be choosers. Asked him where his shorts were. "don't need them" he says. Water washes up around his knees. "What was that, Chris?"

He caught two and I got just the one, but I saw them racing through the burley, which was jsut starting to bring them on, as we packed up.

....Big shoes....kkw was tripping over the backs of my cleats while I was standing in the front of them 2ft away!!

First time with a beach rod. Good fun. Blackfish are a bit of a different style of fishing than "normal" I guess. Gotta be so light on the reefing. was a good arvo, I reckon I'll give my redwolf a go next time . Maybe I'l challenge the old fella to a fishoff......who knows, I might even get that tinny he's been promising me!!
