All the weather forcasts were good so headed out into Boatany bay today.
Made a run for Bare Island first to say Hi to Storm72 and tried my luck on SP around kurnell. Nothing happened there sor went over to the middle of the bay. Got a flathead and lost all sorts of plastics to tailer that were around in plague numbers. Only one plastic was very resilient (snap back) and I caught heaps of them. Cut one up and used strips as well to catch even more of them. Was hoping for a big one but all around the 30 cm mark. Also caught a just under legal Snapper on a strip of tailer Got the compulsary flathead (40 cm) for the missus as well and went back to the wharf to pick up my little boy. While waiting for him to arrive I prepared the rods for bait fishing and chucked a prawn over the side in front of the marina. Got my pb bream there 30 cm (dinner was becoming a feast now) ![]() Got my little boy in the boat and went out in front of the marina again where Jake got a nice 23 cm bream. Not legal but he was very happy with it. ![]() ![]() after several more baby bream and a blue swimmer dropping of the line I went back into the bay to fish the edges for some whiting. Scored my pb whiting there ![]() kept two decent whiting ,released a few smaller ones and caught some baby snapper as well All in all a very good day in the bay where fish can be caught just abouut everywhere. Dinner was flathead, bream and whiting. A bit decadent but hey.... Jack -------------------- ![]() |

Good job Jack. Heaps of Tailer down at Greenwell Point during the week. Loads of whitebait around. The bigger predators shouldn't be too far behind

Was good to meet you mate!

Was good to meet you mate! Tailer taking the whole backend of a snapper. Must be big one indeed On a side note: What is the taste like for tailer, compared to say Bream or Flathead? Since they are so prolific I was wondering if I should maybe take some of these home as well , it's just I do not like taking home fish that will end up in the bin. I guess they should be ok in a fish cake of some sort..... Jack -------------------- ![]() |

Tailer are nice when you cut their throat to bleed them, as they are caught. I knock off the fillets and roll them in seasoned plain flour. Fry in a pan, with butter (not oil or marg, but butter). Only needs a minute. Yummy.
The ones I brought home from GP last week, were cold smoked. Also yummy. ![]() DO NOT freeze them and then expect the same results. They turn to mush. |

Well done on your fishing Jack. I guess getting the kid up very early was not an option and so the wife brings him done for a fish. Actually he gets up very early so that would not be a problem but I want to get some fishing done before I turn into a hook baiter for the little one Jack -------------------- ![]() |

Thats the first thing you should teach him I know, but I think 3,5 is a bit too young. I don't want to be rushing to the hospital with hooks stuck in places they shouldn't be. :doctor: Hope by next summer he'll start getting into that. He can peel the prawns already just have to teach him how to put them on the hook. Can you tell, I use peeled prawns........ahhhhh there goes my secret. ![]() But for now I'm happy he enjoys catching fish, makes it easier to go fishing. I'll take my son and the wife can have an afternoon off. Jack -------------------- ![]() |

Actually he gets up very early so that would not be a problem but I want to get some fishing done before I turn into a hook baiter for the little one You think that is bad. I once went fishing with a group of people and I was putting the bait on so many hooks that I hardly got any fishing done. |

I know, but I think 3,5 is a bit too young. I don't want to be rushing to the hospital with hooks stuck in places they shouldn't be. I dread the day that I have to take out a hook from someone who hooked themselves. I have two thoughts on how to do that from what I have read. When I go fishing with someone new to the sport I tell them my one rule. Always know where your hook is. Of course there are more rules but this one is the one that is constant. So guys always know where your hook is. From carrying the rod to casting. |
