sorry fellas been flat out - all are mulloway Argyrosomus japonicus sizes were 45cm to 71cm not huge but a hell of a lot of fun..

Was fishing soft plastics and the school decided they tasted nice so they hung about ,,I didnt mind the little ones fight like hell and are cunning buggas around dense structure like I was..Lost around 4-5 and captured 7 all up.All were happy snapped except one as he was a bleeder so I didnt mess about straight back for him.

Night time luring be it hardbodys or soft plastics is even more of a challenge if you can master night lureing you have daylight down pat....Its the challenge and fun I love luring its not everones cup of tea but it excites me every time I hit a nice hookup..

Mulloway have 2 distinc species very similar but different none the less down south here they are mulloway-Argyrosomus japonicus previously Argyrosomus hololepidotus but they had a name change... OTHER NAMES: JEWY, JEWFISH, SILVER JEW,
SOAPIE, SCHOOL JEW

mulloway up North in the tropics are MULLOWAY- Johnius diacanthus OTHER NAMES: JEWY, JEWFISH, BLACK JEW,
SPOTTED JEWFISH

There fins are dark yellowish in appearance, the tail fin is pointed distinguishing it from the southern jewfish or Mulloway.

SOUTHERN

Northern black jews

The coloration of fins and tail are more profound yellow on the blacks and the black spot behind the pectoral fin is more profound..I can also see a differance in the shape especially in WA mulloway personally I reckon we have 3 species WA south and Northern they all look different to me.... lol but I love them the same

There feeding habits are pretty much all the same I have looked at each very closely and they do not differ at all really.I have caught black jew using the exact same techniques as our southern jew so what they eat or fed on seems the same.
Personally their body characteristics are slightly different and their names but their habits and breeding habits are very similar all round even the South African jewfish is the same species as the Sothern but if you look closely you will see slight visual differances.
Awesome fish regardless and all have that aweful smell especially when they grow older, dont know if you have noticed it but that jewie smell is a perfume that doesnt do much for me.

Got a mate (actually the son of a mate) who made a vdeo on Mulloway fishing in Port Philip Bay I think. Warren Carter. He reckons you would make a fortune if you could bottle the fragrance of a freshly caught Jewfish. Phew!!!! No thanks.
