Alright so i know KK will probably say 'you change your boat more then your undies' tongue.gif but believe it or not, that's not the case anymore. I've now owned my Ally Craft Taipan 350 for over 4 years (i bought it brand new in 2009).

I'm starting to find it's too small for me. I can drive now and i'm finally getting the knack of towing it and reversing it (what a mission) but when i'm getting out on big lakes (like those up at Forster i just spent 2 weeks at) it's just too small, abit slow and i'd just like something bigger.

I've done abit of pricing around, abit of research and the boat i'm leaning towards at the moment is the Stacer Proline 399. I've got quotes of a painted hull with trailer for around $4k. Which i think isn't too bad. Basically what i want to do is sell my boat (which leads to the first question) what do you think it's worth ? 2009 model hull, 2005 model 8HP Yamaha, older fully reconded Brooker trailer. It only gets used 10 hours a year max. If i get get some cash i'll add whatever on top i need to buy the hull and trailer and as money comes in i'll install full casting decks, live well, leccy on the bow and all that stuff. And towards the end of the year i'll throw all my cash to a second hand 25hp 2 stroke

What do you guys think ? is there any other boats i should look at ?

Cheers

Dan i will not go in to brands that's for you to decide, how ever you are looking to ad about 12 inches in length that is not a lot you may be better off looking at a boat 4.3 to 4.5 a 25hp or 30 will still get it planing nicely and you will a lot more room.

second hand is another way to go

I've heard that you don't change your undies. Why would you want to get a boat that is only slightly bigger?? Go for something over 4.8m - at least you will not have to wear a lifejacket full time.

Well i'm an apprentice Electrician so my pay isn't that great. I can't afford to spend all the money at once but once the boat is setup fully i'll probably have spent 10k on it. If i get 2.5 or 3k for my boat, i'll only need to add 1k on and i can get the hull. Which i'll probably be able to order in March or something.

I got prices and for

A brand new 399 Proline, painted on a trailer - around $4000
A brand new 25HP Yamaha - around $3000

So the front and back casting deck, raised floor, live well, drivers seat tongue.gif and whatever else - whatever it cost.

The idea of buying brand new was doing the boat up as a project over winter. My pay goes - $100 savings, $50 petrol, $50 parents, so i have around $150 to myself to blow, whatever i don't spend on myself, can go towards things for the boat.

A 4.2 sounds tempting but then it needs a 40, power tilt etc.. The 25 would go faster on a smaller boat tongue.gif I just want a pure lake/bream boat. I always have dads boat for any other fishing i need to do.

Being serious, i might have a look at the 4.1 Poly actually, can you buy a hull only ? i'll research it haha

Cheers guys

Alright so i got quoted $4400 for a brand new Proline, painted and ready to go on the trailer. So that looks the goods. And i also got quoted $3000 for a 25hp twin carb Yamaha, $4300 for a 20hp Yamaha 4 stroke and $4800 for a 25hp ETEC. Not sure what to go for engine wise but that'll come later, just getting prices now.

Well i went for a drive down the coast and got some prices while looking at boats:

390 Quintrex Explorer is $5000 painted on a trailer drive away
399 Stacer Proline is $4400 painted on a trailer drive away
399 Stacer Proline Angler (all the goods) is $7500 painted on a trailer drive away
385 Seajay Nomad is $5,030 painted on a trailer drive away
Savage 385 Japibu is $4900 painted on a trailer drive away
395 Brooker Trekker painted on a trailer is $4500 drive away

Got a price list for extras on the Quinnie so i'm gonna use it as a rough guide on the Stacer. Thinking of the following extras:

Side Decks - $500
Truster Plate - $250
Side Pockets - $100
Transducer Bracket - $20

So for $5270 (only around $200-300 then the basic Quinnie, Seajay and Savage i should have an awesome bream boat to work with and hopefully comps to fish.

Priced up outboards

30 Yammy CV - $3000
30 Yammy 3 Cylinder - $3700
25 ETEC (power tilt model) - $5500
30 Yammy 4 stroke (power tilt model) - $5800

Hmmm.. well.. might look for a second hand 30 four stroke or ETEC with all the goodies like power tilt and trim..

This is gonna cost more then i expected anyway, stay tuned for the progress. Waiting for the tinny to sell and seeing how i go about ordering the hull
