HI all went out this morning tides were good .
decided to put some effort in spinning for Jew whith sp's . there was quite a fog this morning ,but after it lifted you could not ask for a better day. smile.gif
There was a mirrow finish on the water no wind and the tide was starting to move out. julie andrews was singing in the backround what more could you want. biggrin.gif
Started using 70mm black / gold sqidgy fish . the sounder wasn't showing mutch, the every now and then a blob of bait fish. had this great sloowww drift with the tide was casting towards structure when i got close i'd motored back out had 4-5 casts per drift .
i'd just let fly another cast and waited for it to sink its been 20min till now, started my retriev third of the way in ,I felt a bump I pused lifted rod tip and it slams down nothing mutch hapend for 2 sec. then it tore off drag was groaning , out to the side you beut. took about 40mt's then stoped felt a head rattle the he was of again. I had motor running by now to get away from structure . :o he then changed direction , and headed for freedom straight back to home base . he done me , couldn't stop him . :o
Reriged , about 5 min later hooly dooly ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ . Gone.
stayed for about 1/2hr more with no more hook ups . so off I went in seach for other fish as the tide was running a bit stronger know . got 4 throw back reds at one spot , then went to fish for flatones . got 8 and went home as the wind picked up. smile.gif

What caused the 'bust off' Steve, was there any signs of fraying, was there a telltale little curl at the end, did the hooks pull, was it 'you', there's always a reason.

As I said in the thread,
first fish went out to the side and then he changed direction and went for home. there was the head rattle when he stoped and turned going back to. dry.gif STRUCTURE / PILONGS . both times . I have caught jew there in the past on bait . Bigest one was 17kg.
Been meaning to have a go at them for a long time , even told JG we should have a go at them a few times.
he knows were i mean . Yesterday went out and decided to throw some biger sp's at this place. tackle wasn't heavy enogh. there was bait fish splashing under pillons tide was good just starting to flow , very carn conditions .
was bust off in the way off tackeing me into the structure.

hey Steve gr8 read, shame about the bust off's,i've lost a good sized Jew i hooked on a Squidgie too,and that was ages ago and it still hurts.I noticed you mentioned 'head rattles/shakes' that's how i lost mine,on a head shake.I was on land with a short rod, useing them Pink squidgie resin heads with the funny hook,it just fell out on a shake :-(((.

Have you tried them new (squidgie) massive flick baits,i've given'em a qik flick and they look pretty good.

Keep pluggin away

nice pics

It was more of a looksy see what hapens , as it turned out 2 runs, was under gunned .
When we fish for them on an outside reef ,35mt useing livies a lot of times they chase the line up and you have to wind or pull {heavy hand lines} up fast to stay tight . they will race up and try to disloge hook head rattles and shacks its a distinktive rattle.

yeah thats how i fluked my first sp/jew hook up.
You see i'd got them at that spot b4 on bait, also lost a screamer but that's another story, anyway it was dead low tide and i'd read how jew will sit under or tight to structure when not active/feeding.Having caught flaty's and bream there on sp's i thought i'd give it a go for jew.

So i tied my lure on and tried as hard as i could to get the sp under a nearby pontoon & when i did get it there i would just jig the sp in the same spot as long as i could and repeat, having read that this will stir up those lazy fish into a strike. But it MUST be in their face.I was using my shimano 7ft flick stick with 6lb Fireline.

At first it was a slight tap..........tap.......pause,jig and ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ i was on big time.I was do'n real well, tiring the fish. But on it's second run i had a hard time stretching enough to stop it from shaking out the hooks(very distinctive head shakes),well on it's THIRD run(was told they only make 1 good run, huh) i was calming myself down for the final stages,as the runs had now eased a bit, when i felt that head shake again & it was all over.Hook fell out mad.gif

gee wizzzzzzzzzzzzzz stevo thats quite a read.the last time i got jews was a few years back at patricks warf where the fuel barge is beyond the carpark ide get me a half a doz or so of yaks at the boat ramp not far from there at penryn eustury and scoot back round the other side with a couple of hand lines with sculldragen 20 pound line and a 10ft schnyder 7 rap and alvey rock hopper special ide ping me two handies out either side of the ten meter stretch out the front there and put a few arms length on the ground with a few twist tops on the line for me line alarm whilst sitting in the middle with me trusty along side and a throw down in me hand and wait.
now im here ta tell ya some nites on a couple of hours before the ebb through to about one or two hours after, ide have at least one or two lines goin at the same time.quite a site im sure you can imagine.i shit you not when i tell ya one nite i was jugglin a hand line and me trusty when yep you guessed it my other hand line went oorrfff like nottin you ever seen, the hit was so hard the reel was left spinnen on the warf at the rate of notts. the two jews i had on at the time didnt feel to bad but instinct told me arse ofF the hand line and wedge me trusty under the corner of the sleeper and go for the reel.half way over to get the reel it stopped...........ive grabbed me reel and got ready for another run.sure enough off she went again it was on for young and old when half way through the run i set that baby home like me after a dry spell on the couch!!!this was a very nice fish i thought as i mano a mano got this thing up till i saw that beatifull flash at which by that time i had me a woody. you beauty as i got him up soon turned to how the f**ck am i gunna get this c**nt up, sure as shit i tell ya it was a sight for sore eyes when ya see me jump in the water like tarzan......shit sorry i got carried away there.i mean i climbed down the ladder around the corner of the warf holden the line in one hand and tryin to keep the line tight as i got down while tryn to get him in closer.there i was with me feet in the water and hauled him up past me ankles and stuk me gloved hand up inside his gills and reefed him up on to the warf and there on the ground was a jew grunten on the ground he had to be at least 20lb.it might not sound like much to you but to me i was stoaked outta me unndies.there i was on me knees shouten haleluja and shaken like a dog shitten a bone.man that was a memorable one

yeh good one guy's . fishkill any jew is a good jew, its one of those fish every one wants to catch. when we fished for them constantly at spot x reef .late arvo and into the night most times we would average 3 fish and anything up to about 6-7 some times more jumpus myself and mates some time 2 boats. great big thud as the springer would slam down.
