Turned out to be 105.5kg officially weighed. However was bled so was probably around the 110kg mark when it came over the side of the boat. Angler was Dan Trotter. Method still unknown. ;)

hysterical.gif hysterical.gif hysterical.gif

Here is a quote from a guy at the weigh in. He also used to be a student at my school. smile.gif

"They trolled the fish up on a Pakula Cockroach, at Browns.

They were actually about to pull the lures in 500m earlier but decided to get up a bit more past the mountain, the rod went off literally 50m from where they were intending to stop."

And here are some pics...what a fish!

I went back & had a look in my diary @ that one & got a few laughs laugh.gif

QUOTE

Think I've mentioned already YFT are my pet fish there's something about them that still excites seen & caght my fair share over the years we've had them by the 100's in our burly trail & would pull the bait away if we didn't want to hook the one going for it.

But one fish really stands out in my mind we were on the Peak STEVE.P was having a sook packed his outfit up & was sitting with his arms crossed wanting to go in cause we'd caught nothing all day but that's the way it goes most of the time.

I always liked to fish @ least 1/2 hour into the night for the YFT & just on sunset saw this Humungas Gigantorous Thingamajiggy swim along side the boat it came from the bow & was heading down the cube trail mouth open like a giant vacum cleaner sucking up all the cubes I was tossing in.

Well I kept my mouth shut till I hooked it & STEVE thought I was pulling his leg till I turned the ratchet on for him to hear laugh.gif laugh.gif

It was a beautifull fish that one with those sickles running down to it's tail thought it was & did call it for a 100 kg + fish but only weighed in @ 96.5 kg

Till this day I think I get more of a buzz seeing come to the boat moreso than when they're hooked think it's got to do with the anticipation of the hookup, had quadrupal hookups with all fish over 80 kg that was a fun day we were using chair rods & only had one chair laugh.gif

OK, I think it was 24kg tackle. None of the guys had a proper gimbal or harness as they weren't expecting anything massive as they left late and it was just a social fish. Check the pics...bruises! Took the aound 4-4.5hrs to land. Ended up calling one of their mates who is a master with a fillet knife. That's a lot of steaks! They were very appreciative of the weigh station opening up so late to weigh their fish. smile.gif

Thinking back to fishing with you Jumpy, what gave me the biggest buzz was waiting for the 1st run to finish, giving the fish time to eat the bait and striking when it moved off again, do you still fish like that?
That minute or so between the fish grabbing the bait and striking was really heart in the mouth stuff, it seemed like an eternity.

laugh.gif No I dont fish like that these days Fed very very rare I stop off & get live bait when targeting YFT it's all cubes these days which is prob a bit of a mistake cause many a time we've had billfish come up in our cube trail & showed no interest in the pilly baits.

Very certain they would've taken a live bait we had one marlins sitting 5 meters behind the boat last october just sat there a livey would've got it aroused

Yep, couldn't hurt to wake up 30 minutes earlier and get a couple of yakkas in the tank. ;) Worst comes to worst, you have fresh cubes if no marlin turn up.
