Gather you're refering to decal's on my wittle boat JumPus'n
Well that was easy I simply picked the Font that I wanted printed off each letter individually so as I could keep the larger size that I wanted. then I trimed each letter to within 6 mm of it's size, used clear tape to adhere it onto the reflective sticker paper then used both a craft knife & scissors to cut to outline of the printed letter retaping as I finished a section of letter. When finished I used the original printed templated & a bit of tape again to see how they looked on the boat once happy I then untaped one @ time off the boat stuck sticker in it's place, that way I didn't lose spacings. Did the same with rego letters the striping ? well thats just silver pin striping not reflective like the letters. When I did the decal on the motors on my big boat I got the camera out photographed the original stickers then D/L'd images onto my pc played around with them till I was happy that I resized them correctly. Then proceed to print them off & repeat what I said previously, once cowls were all decal'd up I sprayed a 2 pack clear over the cowls pic below shows daylight & alongside night time shot great stuff that reflective paper -------------------- Save The Fish, Eat a Pussy |

I see in the corner that the license plate is also reflective. That must have taken a little while to do.

Not long @ all Christos
The only time consuming was getting the sizing correct on the computer, once I was happy with that the rest was very easy & not that time consuming -------------------- Save The Fish, Eat a Pussy |

Did you try cutting up the sticky stuff into A4 sheets and running them through your printer?
M$oft Word has an option to print an outline of the letter and the letters can be made as big as you like. You would have to let the ink dry if using a bubblejet printer, same as printing a transparency for an overhead projector. -------------------- SEAFARER: Fine as a Fairy's Fart |

Fed ink in a standard printer wont work on just about all of the decall paper.
You need a fast drying ink & heaters in the printer for ink to bite in & dry -------------------- Save The Fish, Eat a Pussy |

Already told him that, Jumps, but he wants a second and third opinion Also tried to explain it is not as straight forward as printing letters onto an A4 sheet. Spacing and set out etc need to be taken into account.

What part of that don't you understand, tell me & I'll try and help you if possible. It's very apparant that you've never used decal material Fed so stop trying to make a point. Ink Never Dries end of story The decal has a UV rating on it & it's laminated to boot, which stops the ink from biting & drying. When sign places do your decals for you the laminating is done after the printing is done end of story -------------------- Save The Fish, Eat a Pussy |

Of course it dries and let's face it, you only need the ink to cut out the letter outline.
You just need to keep the sheets apart until the ink is set enough to cut the letter out. -------------------- SEAFARER: Fine as a Fairy's Fart |

Tell you what Fed !
Since you seem to know so much about it & dont want to take my word on the matter Why dont you go right ahead & try your method then come back & give us a full report on how you did it. Make sure you dont cheat use laminated decal the type you'd stick on your boat. Oh here's a little tip keep your hands away from the ink else you'll smear it all over the paper dosn't look very pretty -------------------- Save The Fish, Eat a Pussy |

QUOTE Make sure you dont cheat use laminated decal the type you'd stick on your boat. I don't claim to be an expert in this stuff Jumpy but why would you use laminated decal material when there is no printing to be done anyway? I could understand using laminated if graphics were to be printed on the decals but this as only a single colour letter cut out. They used to rate the 'quality' of this stuff by years for outdoor use, ie: 1yr, 2yr, 5 yr, etc. I believe the rating was mainly used for the adhesive as opposed to the colour fastness or maybe a bit of both. Your usual rebuttal is expected to follow, Merry Xmas. -------------------- SEAFARER: Fine as a Fairy's Fart |
