Heys guys

Took the boat for another run today, thought Long Reef would be worth a shot, well.

We got out there and it was way to choppy, the swell was up heaps, and there was no way i was going to head down to Long Reef. Change of plans i thought we'd get some fresh Bonito and fillet em up, and fish for kings inside somewhere, trolling, trolling, trolling, Bonito should of hooked on about now, trolling, trolling, then the rod went off ! i was thinking Kingie, but i couldn't quite work it out, it was doing runs like Kingies, but it had alot of head shakes, and up came this, well bigger then i usualy catch, Tuna looking fish ? I know it's a Tuna but what sort ? Going to smoke it up anyway, with the write up help from Haji. smile.gif

We didn't end up getting any Bonito and i started to feel sick, so we headed in and burleyed up in a spot for a few hours.

We got a Flounder and a hand full of little Flatties on Soft Plastics, it was pretty quiet.

Called it a day after that, pretty quiet, but it was a good day and i am looking forward to getting out to Long Reef maybe next time. smile.gif

Thought you said Port Hacking. I was waiting at the rock platform with a pile of stones to throw at you, but you never showed.

Twit top take the fillets off , salt them, put them individually into freezer bags & ewe've got the best bait available

BUT EWE CAN SMOKE THEM IF EWE LIKE laugh.gif laugh.gif

Not my fault glue 20 coca cola cans to the back of it so it looks bigger laugh.gif laugh.gif

Salt it & put straight into freezer bags

If ewe leave out of freezer to long the salt will start to dry out the flesh this way the flesh stays moist

wun slab wun bag, wun slab is more than enough for a days fushing

Hmmmmm !

Since ewe're a PadWunGerner & dont seem to get amoungst the wittle fishy's I'd split a fillet in 2 that way you've got 4 lots of bait use 4 bags

After taking bait out wunce dont try to re-freeze

ps] flesh never really freeze's salt stops that from happening

I've had people telling me to leave the fillets in salt for 3 days then freeze, but what you are saying actually makes sense so i'll do that now, i hope the kings like it smile.gif

I might have to try getting some more squid too

3 days is pretty long, I usually only leave it for 1 day so you're not left with leather for bait. All you really want to do is toughen it up a bit, not completely dry it out. Having said that, I've never left it longer than 24-36 hours so maybe 3 days is ok, but I get a good result from about a day. Also there will be a lot of brine which will drain to the bottom, so either have drainage holes or don't put the bait near the bottom.

Note: The brine STINKS, it's basically super concentrated fish juice. You can collect it if you want - it makes great burley just dripping in the trail.

Suppose it's not your fault, kids of today are all the same cant add up unless they've got a calculator in front of then, most dont even know wot a book is unless it's a playboy,

Education system must really suck big time these days & that idiot Pillchard government wants to give you lot even more docile by making sure every student has a pc wot a joke laugh.gif laugh.gif

Just another waste of money and not getting kids to use a simply piece of paper and pen.

You have 3 seconds to answer this
2x3x6+15-72+21=

and that is exactly what the government should send on them , but should put more face to face and pen and paper back into action.
Plus simply english not things like m8 or k these piss me off.
The inventor of the sms is a genius but people that use it are just lazy with the way they use it.
It starting to get that way you need a degree to understand the message on some sms.

Gather ewe're eating a Doughnut oz laugh.gif laugh.gif

You've got to be joking if ewe think kids today can work out that simple equation in under 3 seconds in their heads

Education system these days really gets on my nerves not the kids fault tis wot they're being taught.

No different to fishing DanuSun thinks a GPS will ketch him more wittle fishy's laugh.gif

Tis nothing more than a tool ewe 1st need to learn how to target fish where they'll be when to fish

Wont see a single GPS mark on my units for in close marks unless it's entree point mark for a bay/inlet used as navigation when I'm coming back in the dark or poor visibility

To get back to the salting down techneque.
This is how I do it, and in no way am i saying it's the right way or the only way, simply the way i have been salting my bait for more then 40 years.
Get yourself a good flat largish tray ( mine is Stainless about a metre long by about 1/2 metre wide and a 25cm lip all round ) and put it in a shady spot, Garage etc, Go to your local butcher and get a few kilo of butchers salt, spread a even laver of salt over the tray, depending on how many baits you are going to salt.
Cut your fillets into bait size pieces, preferably with a long skiny tail, and place on the salted tray, open flesh side down, sprinkle a top layer of salt all over the bait sized fillets, and leave for 24 hours. Then place in seal bags. Put about 6 baits in each bag, they don't stick together and don't freeze.
You can then take as many as you think you will use the next time you go out.

With a GPS i would of got back straight away

Thanks Frank, i've got a big tray out the back, i think i'll buy bulk salt from somewhere sometime soon, and stock my fridge up with bait smile.gif

You need to do it sooner then later, do not freeze any fish prior to salting.
