Got out early on Monday and headed down to Long Reef with 2 newbies that have just bought a boat. Picked up yakkas along the way for a little downrigging. We trolled for sometime, finding bait school etc. We lost 2 yakkas but no Kingies. In our time there, we only saw one boat hooked up on a rat and that was it. We could see them on the sounder, but came up with 0's.

Decided to try a couple of spote till we found the fish. We got amongst it in the end. Half a dozen undersize snapper and the usual reef crap... Sweep came and went as well.. We ended up getting onto some decent flathead. Kept 3 to eat..

Highlight of the trip was young Chris (in the pic).. I told him to get his fish out of the live bait tank as i need a photo... He asked me, "how do you do that?" I said, "you stick your fingers in it's mouth and hold it's belly.... Here is a glove"... hysterical.gif hysterical.gif
It took him 5mins, but he did it... hysterical.gif hysterical.gif

This one went 60cm the other 2 kept were mid 40's. Before you all climb over me, i asked him to put it back. But he had other plans... You cant educate everyone in a day, you just try to point them in the right direction rolleyes.gif

Just a note; It's about 16nm down there from the ramp... First time ive done a big trip like that on my own... Everything went great. Getting some confidence in to boat now.

Yep told ewe that the more ewe use it confidence will grow & so will your skills behind the wheel.

Have to admit I'm giving mine heaps now that I know wot it can do & so far all who've been on board have been impressed by the ride.

Steve the guy who was out with me yesterday owns a 6.5 meter pretend plate goat, wun of those Trailcraft thingys hysterical.gif & he commented on the ride & how soft the landings were [was doing a bit of prop dancing outside yesterday ran down the coast sitting on 28 knots]

Just bear wun thing in mind !

These are only 5.5 meters Mini Me's of my big goat they dont handle the same & weight transfer is sum ting ewe need to be aware of @ all times

Mine is going like a rocket now Bees a real Head Turner where ever it goes even getting to like the Black Anchor very smooth

Well done on the flatties mate.... smile1.gif

With experience i am sure you will start wandering out even further.....i am still a bit reluctant to go out the heads myself...

And yes i must say Mini-Me has a very smooth ride...i mentioned it to Jumpus last week a few times at how soft the landings were in the choppy conditions we experienced....

Well done Bees and crew,

Good to see you having a go on your own - it is the only way to learn.

Jake looks so happy with that flattie and at least with all the learning you guys managed a feed.

Always respect the ocean and know your limits.

Bees you should call Wayneo and get him aboard your boat for a Hawkes session to chrisen the goat with a monster jewwie.
