Thought this topic may be of interest & may be of benefit to those who dont fair all that well on their fishing days out.

So let's see if we cant get everyone catching fush on a regular basis shall we ??

Nothing like the old saying expirience will catch you fush but I've allways said that if you dont put in the effort then you wont aquire the expirience required to make virtually every trip pretty much a success.

Sure you can read what others have written in these types of sites but I think 1st hand expirience cannot be beat by that I mean fish with someone who's in the know & pick up on what they do.

Think to start off here we'll discuss locations !!!!!!

Irrellevant if fishing boats or Land Based how do you chose your spots & why ?????????????????????????

To start locations......

I fish the Hawkesbury because i know the water. But it doesn't always catch me fish.
I have never gone home fishless from there, but i dont always catch keepers.

I want to have a look at the harbour, but my wife needs to back in the boat.. They are more tolerant on the hawkesbury

Location:

I launch from grey's point, always and always fish hacking as you can always find sheltered areas if there is wind.

I have not had much luck getting decent fish so don't follow everything I do.

Yakka's :get out look for some structure on the sounder berley up and hope for yakka's. I know some spots where berley gets yakka's and not crap.
flathead: look for drop off's and cast SP's
King fish: You tell me, cant find them
Bream: again look for structure /rocks on the sounder near the shore is where I have had most luck on bream. not many legal ones.
Leatherjackets: Cast in SP if you get many hits and your SP is eaten use a whiting hook and a strip of squid and chuck some berley to keep them there.
Jew fish: See King Fish
whiting: chuck yabbies on shallow sand flats. to shallow for sounder and would just scare them anyway so cast from the edges. No luck yet on legal whiting.
Other stuff: JUst luck if they bite
Snapper: See bream but more in open water.

I have started fishing in Australia end of december/januari this year so I am still trying to get to grips with Hacking and SP is only the last 2 months. So any help much appreciated.

Fishing Spot: Port Hacking

Fish:

Flathead: Drop Offs ... Where There Are Scared Bait Fish etc

Bream: Deeper Bays ... Around Moored Boats

Whiting: Sand Bars Where There Are Yabbie Holes ...... Drop Offs

Tailor: Round Rocks .... Deeper Water ... Bays

Jewfish: You Tell Me

KingFish: Again You Tell Me

Snapper: Where Ever You Put Your Bait

I have been viewing fishing reports in regards to Pt Hacking for about a year or so now & quite frankly they more or less suck

I do fish the place on occasions but moreso to target whiting not saying Pt Hacking dosen't yield good fush but honestly think it's only a good place to get out of the wind & not a good regular fush producing spot.

Jewgong are a lazy fish & best fished for an hr either side of the tide that's when they come out of their holes they dont like fast current
Kungfush ?? well pt Hacking would be the last place I'd be going to target them

Breams ??? Well in the Hacking & up @ the Hawksbury where Bee's fush's it's very tidal oriented no different to Greenwell Pt where I fished last week there's only about an hr either side of the tied where you'll get constant action.

That's why I like the Bay they come on in spurts but you can virtually get your bream & snapper all day long again I stress I only like to fush afternoons simply because the tides are allways smaller & not as much run in the tides.

Suggest if you're going to fush the hacking you anchor up for the tide changes burley up catch your fush then go on the drift once a bite ends.

Hawkesbury ?? well I dont fush it much if @ all these days & I know the current rips though the river but you'll allways get a good feed of legal flatones if you get into the shallows where the tides dosen't race through SP's are the way to go if after the flatones

Yep Yep there's a few who fush the fresh here who do well & have a bit of knowledge

i think cod and bass are much the same they tend to stick too structures most of the time ,,,cod are unpredictable, most of the time they wont strike unless out of aggression ,but then of a night you can catch them almost anywhere ,,,,,ill leave bass to steve p ,,,,trout i find better in rapids ,but they tend only to be smaller fish ,whereas the bigger ones you have to work the bigger holes most of the time ,,,,yellow belly and silver perch and redfin will wonder around lookin and are pretty easy to catch ,,usually when ya get one of these 3 fish you will get more ,especially redfin ans silver perch as they tend to school ,yellow belly tend to get around in 3-4 fish per mob ,,,they tend to be 1 big female and the rest little males following her ,,,,typical male only want 1 thing ,,,, bait for these are pretty much the same for all wood grubs or willow grubs are great for cod and big big trout ,freshwater crayfish or crawbobs are great for all of these fish as is the plain old garden worm,worms are the best bait for redfin and silverperch ,,,the poor old carp can nearly be caught on anything that comes to mind ,,,,

Jumpy, got it pretty right.

I rarely anchor up, prefer to drift in the Hacking.

I don't have a sounder and judge the depth but the time it takes for the sinker to drop.

Burley, burley, burley brings the fish to you. Most important is to have some baits down the bottom and float some (may need 1 split lead to get it under).
Type of burley and bait is important for me, pellets and squid.

Depending on the tide flow close to structures and the shore you will find Leatherackets.

And I prefer either side of high tide late in the afternoon.

Well as everyone would know now, i mainly fish the Georges River...

Firstly cause it close to home, calm waters even with wind and seems to be abundant with a number of species...
Has been providing plentiful Bream, flathead, tailor, whiting and some big Trevally caught last Friday.

In the last year or so i have picked up some great knowledge from this site, locals and of course first hand experience in trying many spots. I think now i have a bit of know how on where and when best to fish the river.

Main baits are chicken & prawns on light tackle.

Como - is best fished 2 hours either side of tides. Also early morning and late afternoon has been very good of late.
Taren Point (Captain Cooks bridge) has been fishing very well late at nights. Either tide has been good
Tom Uglys - Either tide provides Bream & Tailor.
The Moons - last year was very rewarding with bream and whiting, but not sure why this year has been very slow.

Very good guess is all the rain we've been having, no need for the fish to travel up the river looking for food & I'm expecting a good few months in the Bay fush wise

I fish upper Parra river and it's all about the tides and looking (actually looking) for the fish and fishy spots.

Another reason for launching in hacking for me is that solo launching and retrieving on the ramp at tom ugly and sylvania are not as easy as grays point.

Is there a boat ramp at kurnell that is easy to use and has decent parking?

Never used the ramp @ kurnel Jack so cant comment
Have seen it from the water & it looks like it had a good size parking area.

Dont know how much it costs but St George Motor Boat Club has exellent facility's to launch from
But you need to be a member in order to use the ramps etc

I have no probs lauching from the hole in the wall boat ramp @ Sylvania there's been work getting done to it but dont know if they've finished the works.

steep is not a problem I don't think. I have not yet gone into the phase where I'd be driving my boat onto the trailer. So if there is a pontoon nearby where I can tie up the boat ,get my car and pull my boat on a rope to the trailer I'm happy.The trailer centres the keel so even if it comes in on an angle, the moment I start winching it pulls straight

Hole in the wall does have a very good wharf you can tie off to & ramp is 2 lane

It's to much drama towing my bigger boat there pt Botany is only just down the road.

But if there's any hint of a southerly & I want to fish the towra area in the wittle boat I'll tow all the way over there every time.

And how about flatheads? surely they do not come up a berley trail do they??

They will moreso cause your burley attracts small fishy's & commotion but only expect a few flatty's to do that.

Flathead are best fushed for on the drift & I cant flaw using lures on them as your covering a larger are.

I've found with flathead they hang around in pockets once you've found where they're @ it's virtually one after the other
