Hi Guys,

I have noticed on my last 2 trips this week the water pressure coming out of the water outlet on my Evinrude 70hp is a bit slower. (ie, less pressure coming out)

I checked the hose for any kinks and could not find any. How do i determine if it is a water pump issue or impeller. If any, are they difficult to replace?

The outboard seems to be running ok, but i want to make sure i don't encounter any overheating issues.

I am now sifting through the manual, but would appreciate any advice...

you can run a thin copper wire through the hose and check for crap inside blocking it or maybe the impellor neeed to be replaced either way not to hard a job if you have the manual for the outboard...
Also take of the inlet screeen and check for debris or crap inside there...

Have you been driving through sand or mud, that will kill a pump impeller very quickly.

Fed - i don't believe i have driven through mud or sand.....

Stick with Mully's suggestions Majed, BTW has the impeller been replaced since you've had the boat?
If not then maybe it's time for peace of mind.

Hey Majed, I would take the thermostat housing off and run the motor and flush it out through the thermostat housing it will remove any salt or sand build up from the water jackets.

I haven't replaced the impeller since i purchased the boat a year ago. I think for good measure i will replace it anyway and also follow Mully's and Sumo's advice.... smile.gif

Water pressure works off the driveshaft but just because you dont see alot of water coming out of the outlet hose dosen't mean your motor is not being cooled or your impellor is stuffed as the water will divert out through the exhaust.

As allready said around the thermostat housing would be the 1st place I'd be looking if indeed there was a blockage cause thats were salt buildup will occur you may flush your motor but if thermostat dosen't heat up enough to open then the salt wont get flushed out.

To change the impellor is quite easy I posted how some time back & found that reply here's a copy & paste of what I wrote

Slide new impeller it down shaft
Dont try twisting/squashing rubber blades on the new impeller to fit it in housing just hold it down firmly & rotate drive shaft & it will slot into place.
Bolt housing cover back on then grease top of drive shaft B4 re bolting gearbox back on

Read the book Majed, there are a couple of traps for young players mate.
No selecting gears without motor running or someone turning your prop.
Take care aligning gear linkage, water tube and exhaust tube.
Mark your anode position before removing it.
Take care with the splines on the drive shaft when refitting it, if you damage the crankshaft seal you'll be pulling the powerhead off.
Don't use the bolts to pull the lower housing up, it should push up by hand and if it doesn't then something's wrong.
As I said there are a lot of traps so read the book & take care.

Water outlet from engine was flushed with a high pressure hose which managed to disperse a lot of sand / mud from the bottom inlets.....This has seemed to fix the issue as water pressue pumping out is quite good again.... smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

Thats usually the problem I always remove my inlet mesh and clean it up as sometimes grub get in behind it...I al;so send the wire through every now and then to clean up scale and kaka built up inside you cannot otherwise see or remove.

Those mesh's you were refering to Mully are there to stop your impellor from picking up any large matter.

And yep they cant clog up esp if you fish rivers where there's a muddy bottom
