Thought this Q might arouse a bit of interest
Was out last sunday in the bay & could not help noticing the amount of tinny's on the water reckon they out numbered glass boats by 8 : 2
Also saw a few plastic bags floating in the water & I assumed they were polycraft in the making cause they looked like they were having a soft ride
pulling your leg there poly OK here's the Question
We're talking about traler boats not LardydeDah boats
You may even list your fantasy goat
We all fish different so go ahead & list what motor/'s & features you would like in your Dream Goat as well

I am starting to lean towards a glass boat that I can use as a fmaily boat as thats th way I see things going in the next few years.
Cruise Craft Explorer 625, All Accessories With larged Capacity 4 stroke it can have
Rod holders, Bait board, Bait tank, Fridge and Ice Box, All the Gear..
Very Nice looking boat, Capable of fishing outside as well as a nice cruise of the bay or pulling the tube with the kids, in the future! haha

this is quite a question J G, as u know i am more than happy with the poly as u are with the big boat.
if i were to change any thing it would be to add a bit more storage up front that way i could use one of the 90lt bins as a live well.
now if we are talking fantasy boats just stretch out the 4.1 to about 6mts ad a cuddy cab and a 150hp four stroke a couple of 15kg outfits a good days fishing and that will do me

The esky would be full, and I would be off, no stopping me!!

My Dream boat would be a Sea Swirl Striper in the 23ft Range with enclosed cabin, or maybe an Arvor.
THat Cruisecraft, i have fished on one,"YankeeDoodle" and must say it is underpowered with a 150 4stroke Honda, and is also ass heavy? It was on the second top hole the engine, then they moved it to the last hole as it was cavitating, it stopped that but now is bum heavy. THey are an awesome boat though.
If iwas to get a plate boat it would be a Noble Super V, these things are awesome, ive seen them in action, noteably the boat "Billistic", andthey have pulled some really nice fish out of her, Marlin to 700lb's out of a 6m Plate!

As a first ever boat, a Makocraft Frenzy 470.
-Makocraft Frenzy 470
-75HP Evinrude E-Tec
Extra Features:
-100L tournament live well
-Minn-Kota Riptide electric motor
-Lean seat
-Hydraulic steering upgrade
This is more realistic. Good thing is it comes with all the extra goodies already. Good for bream and other estuary work along with zooming around the harbour and if I'm lucky and experienced enough, get out offshore to the FAD's or something. ;)
Click to view attachmentBUTIf I was gonna go crazy on all of you guys, I would go a Haines Hunter Patriot 800. B)
-Haines Hunter Patriot 800
-Twin 225HP Evinrude E-Tec's
Extra Features:
-Outriggers
-Live bait tank
-Deck wash
-Toilet
-Kill tank
-All the other fancy pants accesories that make life easier
Yep, full blown game vessel and also an offshore rig for jigging, bottom bashing ect. But also a bit sportier and more deck space for mates and multiple lines out. Pity it costs so many $$$.

J G why do u think i told him to look more closely, u are quite wright they do come out of the old haines molds the difference is the Edencraft are much better built and have none of the crap u would get with most glass boats.
Eden seem to be building for the fisherman and not the family boater, i will be taking a 6mt for a test in the next couple of months, it may not be as good as the poly in the same size but i will post my impressions as honestly as i can
Centre length 6.2 M
Max beam 2.4 M
Hull dead rise 22 °
Hull draft 0.35 M
Cockpit area 6.0 Mē
Fuel tank capacity 240 L
Hull dry weight (approx) 1100 Kg
Outboard power (Max) 1 x 250 HP
or 2 x 130 HP

I cant see how you can say that ??
The 233 was originally designed as a race hull & quite a few race them as off shore racers
I know 2 guys who own the 233 one of them is actually up for sale twin 200 hp Yams on the back.
Now if both boats come out of the same mold how can you say that Edencraft build a better boat than Haines did ???????????????
The Chop took delivery of his edencraft not that long ago & yep it's a nice boat but not my cup of tea.

Well i'm not normaly one to dream, usualy just stick to setting goals that are reasonable and acheivable.
That said my ideal boat would be the one i have now which is a 4.1mtr runabout that a previous owner has done up like a Barra boat, raised casting deck with storage and tiller steer. At the mo i run alittle 6hp on a bracket so i can get into rooly, rooly shallow water. Not much chop in the big rivers but ideal for the little lakes i set it up for.
My poor little boats been neglected for a while now so to make it my ideal boat i would:
Repaint
Repower (40hp)
Maybe fit a side consol
Fit a Lecky
Fix the trailer
and she'd be sweet
Now if i was dreaming,i'd have me little boat plus a nice big Cat, as i get abit grey around the gills when go'n outside, and it must have a thumper sound system.Of course it'd be called 'Smelly Wet Pussy'

J G i would have to say that when Hains were using those molds, some of the best boats in there size and type were being built to worlds best practice wright hear in oz
BUT THEY NO LONGER USE THOSE MOLDS and that is why i suggested young catch look a bit further.

Dont think I have a dream boat in mind quite happy with the 2 that I've got
The bigger one will get me anywhere & back has heaps of room & is fitted out the way I want rides well & will leave most boats in it's wake in any sort of sea.
Did have a larger moored game boat but like all different types of boats they all have their goods & bad points
With any moored boats you need reliable drew & thats mission impossible
With the 23 ft'er I have now I have no probs whatsoever taking it out on my own & it's got the hp to get me to & fro in no time I've made the comment I always feel safe in it & no truer words have ever come from my mouth.
Good example was last wednesday when we came home from 32 miles out initially took it easy cause it was a bit heeby geeby out there but still managed a comfortable ride sitting on around 15 - 17 knots but once in a bit closer seas settled a bit & down went the throatles.
Now in this boat you cannot broach it runs true the hardtop keeps you dry as & protects all the electronics the boat has very little if any maitanence exept if I get another brain explosion & want to do something else on it it has every gizzmo [ not jasons dog
] on board
Now That's My Ideal BoatI dont have to dream I've got one & not because I own it either moreso the way it is setup think that plays a big part in having a boat & a ideal boat.
Even with all the gizzmo's [ again not jasons dog
] it still one drawback !
It dosen't allow me to fish shallow places & it's a bit on the hard side to fish SP's or lures & thats the reason I have the smaller tinny it lets me fish places the bigger doat cant having said that if I had to choose only being able to own one boat it would definately be the bigger plate boat no Q's asked
poly
Sep 20 2007, 11:38 PM

Spent alot of time & $$$$'s rebuilding my big boat poly think it will be good for anothe decade or so & dont know what my fishing habits will be like in the future.
But if I did have to replace it in the near future I'd have to look around to see whats available did go to this years boat show & was not overly impressed & it's not my arrogance talking either.
I would go plate boat again I'd look @ specs not just material used I'm talking gunnel hight again I would go wet deck & hard top no Q's about that.
After doing reseach & going for a test drive with me behind the wheel I'd order unpainted hull only & fit it out the way I want it.

But u are coming home after a days fishing and the boat is hit by a semi trailer at the lights, its back is broken what now, the new one will have to be alloy, will it be a 6mt?? 7+mt??? have a look out there my friend will it come from the west like the old one or will u go to a manufacturer on this side of this gr8 land please let us know what u find.

Yep, or say your boat sinks off browns whilst on fire and exploding into bits and pieces and then those bits and pieces are taken to different areas by birds and all the electronics and floating bits are eaten by tuna, and those tuna are then eaten by makos.
OK.....NOW what boat and engine do you want knowing $$$ is no object and neither is storage or whatever. ;)

Still sticking with my landcrusier craft, However If i was to go fishing only boat it would be plate, I would get something in the 6-7m range, Not sur on brand, but would probably go a custom fitout.
Was in the predator factory and they had a great looking setup with hardtop and cabin with door and a massive rear deck, looked awesome, was being setup as a dive charter boat but could easily be changed into a fishing rig.

Now if you wanted a boat to fish creeks, rivers, bays and offshore plus family cruising and activities that was cheap to run and easy to tow what would you choose?
Me, I'd be thinking pressed alloy four stroke, maybe something like a Quintrex 520 Coast Runner.
Can anyone come up with a better allround alternative?

Fed you must have Big creeks and rivers at Milperra, If you were in the bush you would realise that you wont fit a 520 Quinnie in any of the creeks or rivers, the last thing that you would want is the weight of a four stroke on the back, most of the time any more than 6" of draft and you're in trouble. By the way if you were around here you would not want a Quintrex on our waterways as it is a known fact that this year alone no less than four Quinnies that I know of have been sent back to the factory for Splitting beside the welds.

I doubt there will ever be an allround boat that would be good at both ends of the scale, it's always a compromise.
