What's your biggest YFT to date Jumpy, I remember you were full on to catch a +100Kg one.
My biggest was 98 kg but lost a few good fish which I thought would've gone over the magic 100 kg mark & like most good fish lost you'll lose them @ the boat.
When a yellowfin is in it's final fighting stage you'll notice it arcs from left to right then back again back when I didn't know any better I used light traces of around 100 kg breaking strain & lost some good fish because of that YFT dont have teeth but do have a rough griping surface inside their mouths & when they start to arc your trace gets worn down.
If you've ever watched YFT feed you'll know they're a giant vacumn cleaner & size of trace will not deter them from taking your bait if anyone tell otherwise tell them they're full of CRAP
These days you wont find a trace on my boat under 200 kg & prefer to use 250 kg.

why use light gear on big fish wouldnt it be less stress on the fish to take 20mins to catch on stonger gear then three hours on light gear
Depends on why you fish ? I'm not a big fan of using rope to catch my fish by that I mean heavy tackle & you'll find there's alot more stress on a fish when it's pulling say 8 kg of drag opposed to 4 kg of drag for some reason certain fish go harder on heavier tackle than on light tackle end result say on a YFT is it will die of whats refered to as a heart attack.
Here's a little story that happened a few years back on the peak we were cubing when up the burley trail came about 1/2 doz of the biggest, Humungarous YFT that I'd ever seen well both me & the other guy hooked up @ the same time his fought clean up on the surface mine plugged down deep.
He landed his which weighed in @ 106 kg mine had a heart attack & died & you've got buckleys of lifting a big fish like that to the surface.
I used to believe light line stressed the fish out but after years of expiririens I now believe that to be a old wifes tale I've had a hell of alot more fish die on me using heavy tackle oppose to light tackle + on light tackle you give a fish a sporting chance & your skills as a angler will determine whether you get to land the fish not by using rope
