Just a friendly reminder to anyone with an epirb.
My mate from Bermagui rang and told me I have to hand in my epirb, which is registered in his name because that's where the boat is normally used.
As usual my mate has got the bull by the horns again and the epirb only needs re registering, this must be done every 2 years and my mate forgot to tell me anything about getting reminder letters etc.
My epirb is now 7 months out of registration and I don't know IF it's a throw away item or if I can catch up on the registration, or not.

Just a reminder to renew the rego or get hassled by threatening letters.

I do not have any real knowledge about epirb's, but would think that you should be able to register it

Thanks Fed. Done and updated. I have 1 epirb shared between 2 boats.
battery exp date 12/2016 so have a couple of years left before I have to bother with replacing battery.

When you're sharing between boats do you have to update any details depending on what boat you're using?

IMO they should change the 2NM? limit into at least 10NM.

I can see it now, some jerk at GME thinking here's a way to make some money let's lobby the powers that be so we can sell a heap of epirbs.

Fed. No just have to remember what boat it is in. When I bought this one it wasn't a problem for me cause boath boats were based down at Bermagui, now I have one boat down there and one up here, it will be a problem, so I will have to either buy another epirb OR sell one of the boats.

Not only that mate , but when they became compolsory the cheap non GPS model ( which I have ) was $499 and they knew if you wanted to use your boat 2 mile or more off shore you had to buy one.
Now that everyone has them the price has dropped to around $260, still way too much to pay for a few electronic components, probably about $60 to make.

Just another means of tax for a luxury component, a boat.

Can get em for $202 on ebay.. Im going non gps as I already have a gps/PLB on the boat.
