I've been thinking of buying a fly fishing outfit. Never done it before, but know a guy who does so I can learn off him. Just a few Q's
-How much will an average outfit (everything) cost me? I want something good, but not so good it'll cost a lmb.
-What are good brands?
-Is it difficult to learn?
-My main target would be bream, is fly a productive method?
-Any hints or tips that would help me?
Thanx

Hey Goldfish, work out what you want in a rod, I've got dozens of them sitting here, Pflueger, Worcestershire, Shakespeare, Hawk, and Wilson Surecatch, from 7ft to 9ft and from 6wt to 9wt. from about $125 to $450 Graphite and composite.. shame your not a bit closer to Tamworth if you get an idea what you want you can have your pick at HALF PRICE or less, they've gotta go.

What are the best lengths, or does it work on the same basis as normal rods. The longer the better, or certain lengths for your applications? How do weights work, and what would be the equivalent of 6-8lb test.

Hey Goldfish, Don't know much about it myself but 6wt is for little fish and 9wt is for salt water fishing, A constant Fly Fisherman can tell you all about it.

i love me fly fishing,i do a lot around bendemeer ,i reckon you should do what i did and go to bigw and buy a $30 setup and learn with that ,that way if you like it and want to get into it more you could buy better gear later ,ive been doin it for about 2 years and love it ,soon ill have to upgrade from me $30 setup though

I'd prefer to buy a decent outfit and stick with it. No point buying something crap and having to upgrade later on...that's $30 wasted.

lime takes the oxygen out of the water, people many years ago used to put lime in a beer bottle, a small hole in the top and throw it in the river and wait down stream and catch the fish as they float past.
Wouldnt do it anymore as you will get massively busted from fisheries, epa and anyone else who wants to pinapple you.

I once set off a stick of gelignite directly opposite the Water Police at Sans Souci, set the fuse to give it time to sink to the bottom.
You would not believe the explosion, it went off like a McHale's Navy depth charge, first off there was a shimmering on the water in a circle about 30M diametre followed by a huge spurt of water straight up out of the centre and last but not least a huge boiling on the surface bringing up sand/mud and weed.
I didn't see any fish but we didn't stay to look for them, needless to say we didn't expect such a spectacular result so we made a quick get away.
