Well its blowing a gale in the NORTH, and everywhere else for that matter, between the rain and the drizzle combined with a bit of sleet, I had a visit from a young friend, he wanted to tell me he was taking his young fella camping overnight to Split Rock Dam, You haven't been out for a while he said, why dont you grab a rod and come for a fish? I gestured to him that I might even brave the cold for a while, but if i'm not there go without me. Well I thought about it for a few long hard seconds, I did have a new little 10bb bream reel that I wanted to try. I grabbed a new wilson 4 ft 2 piece light rod and mounted the reel, What a combination I exclaimed! out with a new roll of Italian 5kg Tournament line and my daughter wound while I held the spool, about 90 to 100 yds it held, I grabbed the tackle bag and my vest while Rocky made me a couple of sandwiches and a cordial to take.
In the Rodeo and off on the trek 18ks up the road, I had to go down the Boat Ramp to the bottom (the Dam's down to 2 percent so there's no water here) turned left at the bottom and over to Dan's secret Camping spot, I helped him set up camp and we jumped in the boat and motored along for a couple of klms, I picked a small tree and said just here Dan. Well Dan had his line in the water as we stopped, I handed young Billy his rod and he slipped it over and sat there contented, not bad for a four year old, I rigged up and grabbed a sweet looking Shrimp, We sat for half an hour or more then Billy started to get bored so I gave him a packet of chips I just happened to have in my bag. It started to get bitterly cold then a hit, I was in 20ft of water and this thing was shaking its head, half way up and it took off shaking all the way, its gotta be a Catfish I said to Dan as he leaned over with the net, No it's not said dan it's a big Yella Fella Dan quickly slipped it in the Esky, neither of us had a camera, it's too cold out here said Dan lets go back. No pictures but I bet Dan and young Billy had a great DINNER.
