OZ Is there a cheap portable cd burner device I can use via usb
I can buy that I can copy photos from my computer to cd/dvd etc.
Somehow I have lost the burner, or at least have lost the know how
to find where it is on my machine, somehow I think I must have deleted
it from my machine.
My computer is doing all sorts of weird things lately and I am thinking of
buying a new one, but want to save my photos before I shut my old computer down.
Can you help ?.
Spudly
best bet is to buy an external HDD and backup your pics and documents onto it

can get 1tb for less than $100 now or much cheaper fo 200gig or 500gig ones..

then every few months you can just rebackup your files..

they simply copnnect by USB and you copy everything over..

I paid about $60 last year for 500GBs Spud, I use it on a TV set top box USB to record TV shows.

Are these machines idiot proof ? cause when it comes to computer stuff I am a pretty big idiot.

Yes mate they just show up as another drive when you plug them in.
If you used to have a burner then it's still there unless you've been inside the box with a screwdriver.

There is a few ways to save you pictures.
1) upload to a good site
2) cd/dvd burner , I have internals in stock for $20 with software.
3) external dvd , which is the same as above but has a casing add $30.00 approx.
4) external hdd usb or esata start from $50.00 to $300.00 all depending on size
5) network computers and transfering
6) have them printed by someone like visatprint.

If you just need it for a once off job I will let you borrow one of mine all depending on the size you need.
Also in the externals hdd there is two types one that runs off the power of the computer especially for laptops and is usb only, the other has a fully power supply it self and can be run usb , firewire, e/sata and network all depending on the brand and cost.

If you decide on external go to officework and look at the Western Digital 1TB Elements Desktop External Hard Drive they have for $89.00 .I cannot even buy direct at that price.

Oz thanks mate, don't know what i'm going to do really, my internet connection is running slower then dial up at the moment and I have a optus tech coming out to me sometime, so I might place a vb in his hand and ask him nicely if he can find what happened to the burner that is inbuilt into my machine.
Think somehow I must have removed the drivers or something somewhere sometime somehow, just can't find a short cut or even a long cut to access it and burn the photos I want to save. vAL HAS ABOUT 2000 BLOODY BABY PHOTOS OF THE GRANKIDS GROWING UP and if I lose these from my computer blowing up i will be in BIG trouble.
I have a few photos from over the years I would also like to keep.
using laptop at moment, and can't get used to it.

What are you running in windows. The most common fault for dvdas is been not used and they fail.
If your near Blacktown give me a call and I will have a look for you.

I was going to send you a p.m. about a 1tb hard drive but that answers my question.
when Julie came to install this new computer she kept on at me about backing up my files, so I had best do it before she comes back and hits me over the head with her hand bag laugh.gif
