I have been going out for a fish off the rocks at least one day a week over the past month, and the good days prior to Christmas, have certainly slowed. Cabbage is hard to find (except on the ocean rocks) and the fish are a lot less interested after an apparent successful spawning run. Four mates who are good luderick fishos have been disappointed off the ocean rocks as well. They went out on Friday and only got 7 fish between them.
Anyway, took two mates along with me this morning, and decided on a 5am start. Wow!!! It's still dark at that time. Won't do that again any time soon. We were heading out the front, but there was a bit of a roll coming through the heads, so decided to fish the sheltered water. In hindsight, we should have done the hike as the wind died off and so did the swell. Fish were timid today and sporadic. I ended up with 8 fish and the other boys got three between them. I really don't know why this happens, as we are using identical hooks, leaders and mainlines. As the regulars always say - "gee you're lucky'!!' That is the only explanation :biggrin2: :1fishing1:
