Got a ling ling this morn from a mate this morn wanting to know if i was the wun who'd pulled 3 guys of a buoy in Botany Bay this morn

He'd heard on the radio news a boat went down, went to see him later in the day to pick up a new wash down pump which i didn't need in the end bloody wire had come loose

Anyways googled up the story

Betcha when/if they pull the boat up they find the anchor rope tied around a rear cleat, and more then likely the boat will still be firmly fastened to the bottom via a fowled anchor.

Nearest reef is watts & thats a long swim to the buoy they would've headed towards land if they were fishing watts

I reckon the Pilot boat hit them they drive like maniacs

On the news they said the guys were on one of the mooring drums.

They heard a loud bang from the back of the boat then it sank quickly.

As usual we'll probably never find out the truth which is sad because if they made all of these accidents very public then people could learn from them. It's as if the authorities try & hide what happened.

I reckon they were hit by another vessel for sure - sounds suss that the boat just sank- looks like they were still in the bay.

There sumting suz if they were that close to the mooring drums why did they swim another 200 odd meters to the marker buoy & not latch onto the drum they have rungs on them.

no i don't think they were hit by another boat, even if you did not see the other boat till it hit you,, you most surly would have after the accident, wouldn't you???????????????????????????????

Frank sounds about right to me, the anchor fouled on the buoy chain maybe

I re-read the story in your link Jumpy and it says they were on a mooring buoy, that can only be one of the drums.


The press are hopeless, one said Port Botany, one said Botany Bay, one said Kurnell, one said it was a drum & showed pics and another said it was a red marker & showed pics.
It wouldn't have been too bad on a drum those things are pretty big, like you said they even have a ladder on them.
Seafairy said they looked like reffos.

Yes, they were natives of Lebanon. Three big boys in a tub. Don't know what the boat was, but can visualise a scenario... nuf said. Seen loads of similar situations when I was in the W.P.

Got the story today not the crap papers printed which had poor frank claiming it was anchor pulling & me with pilot boat running over them

Twits were outside the heads all by themselves without supervision ketching whopping big wi tings 70 cm's long pissed myself when i heard that wun

Anyways they got tired of ketching so many big wi tings & opted to call it a day, on the way in they saw lights @ the hot water outlet [oil wharf] other boats & decided to stop there & ketch sum 1 meter long brims.

There was no bang as described in article boat did sink quickly & not because anything hit it or lifting anchor.

Boat was damaged b4 they went out & owner did a bodgy repair prob with silicon instead of getting crack repaired properly

Dont think boat was insured cause maritine wanted $6k to salvage boat they wanted boat removed from water & an insurance policy would've covered that.

These guys were seen last sunday @ kurnel must've organised someone to tow boat from hot water outlet to beach only 3 - 4 meters deep @ outlet so snorkel/goggles is all that was needed to attach tow rope to boat odd thing was no motor on back of boat when it was sitting on beach

never seen a 70cm wi ting well not that far north and as for a meter long bream,, how hard would that go,that could have been what pulled the boat under
no your right a dodgy repair sounds about right
the boat glass or alloy???????? no way it would have been plastic
