I can not seem to get this lake figured out. Catching many little fish but the big ones elude me.

Caught yabbies but there were a lot fewer than last year so this was hard work. and took the little one fishing several times with some legal whiting an d blackfish but niothing seriously legal. Need to get into poddy mullet to get some big flatties I guess

than we found out the the man made lake below our balcony actually contained fish (well fish...) and I started enjoying catching decent size fish.

The maintenance guy almost had a heart attack when I told him I was chucking them back and told me to kill'm and bag'm and he'd collect them every morning. They want to get rid of them to stock the pond with more worthy fish.
Slimey buggers come down from the hill out of the dams on the golf course.

Conger eels Jack. They eat them back in the old country, don't they? Amazing how much purchase they can get in the water. I used to go to Conjola a lot, to water ski and fish. That was when it was open to the sea and flowing freely. Best spot for bream and flathead was the 'balconies' just where the lakes starts to flow into the 'river' on its way to the sea. I saw it a couple of years back and it was putrid near the mouth. They were talking about opening it with front end loaders - same as Tabouri.

I wouldn't call it putrid, but the opening to the sea is about a foot deep at low tide so not much refreshing happening. If not for the colony of whatever birds at the opening it would have been dredged by now. But the greenies put he welfare of the birds above the welfare of the population of conjola, fishermans paradise and the place on the north side of the lake.

There is plenty of big fish around. just snorkelling you'll see heaps of large fish and countless flathead. The big fish are just not silly enough to bite in your average bait.

Yes eel gets eaten in Holland but these eels are in very muddy water and require a good few days in a tub with clear water to get the mud taste out. I believe in Asia they eat eels too. Just that in Australia they are spoiled with too many better tasting fish I guess :-)

Last time I was there, it was completely closed and the 'pool' at the end of the dunes was green and slimy with piles of rotting stuff, feathers, dead mutton birds and a sign that said, 'stay out of the water - pelican itch'. Glad it is at least flowing now. Used to be 8ft deep and raging out to sea like a river.

Go to any japanese resturant and you will see on the munu Smoked eel, mainly as an ontray and you get 4 skinny slices of eel on a cracker biscuit with some soy sauce for about $8 a serve, and it's very tasty. The restraunt would make about $1000 on a fish of that size.
EEL fishing is big business, I have a mate that still does it up the Hawkesbury and he makes a good sideline to his other fishing.
I think Jumpy might know Steve as well.
EEL fishing in the creeks and golf coarses was part of growing up for me.

I know my dad used to absolutely love smoking eel in Holland. Like I said they want to get them out to stock with other species, but I guess I'll be going for the meat tray raffle for years to come to get bait for eel fishing. Bottom line is catching fish is fun no matter which type and this can be done from our balcony.

We used to ketch them @ the Lakes golf course, caught a rip snorta wun wunce prob 5 ft long took it into the local Kentuckan Fruken Chookens Shop & asked if Colonel Sanders wanted it to try for a new recipe.

I don't know if they're the same but the eels I've caught look more like fat snakes and they tie themselves in knots on your line, I cut them off & re rig. That thing looks more like a fish to me, either way anything scary I cut it's head off or kill first and ask questions later.

I believe they love smoking in Amsterdam, but it isn't eel.

Some of these idiots in Amsterdam are so wasted they would smoke anything that you can roll in ricepaper.
