Full Version: Fishin In Central Aus
Fishing oz style > Chat > Gilligan's Island

Just returned from a trip to Alice Springs. Was asked to drive Beryl's bosses Landcruiser back to Sydney.
Had a look in K Mart at Alice, to see what kind of fishing gear they had. NONE!!! They reckon there's no need for it in central Aus.
There had been a bit of rain in the area before we arrived, and the locals had to shift camp out of the dry riverbed of the Todd, and set up in the long grass of the banks and under bridges.
There has always been a sort of semi permanent water supply in the deep gorges around the Alice, and the creeks and rivers were feeding into them. Some of the floodways across the roads were 1m deep and raging. The water was ICY cold too.
Had a look at Ellery Creek deep hole and saw loads of dead fishies floating in the reed beds. Ranger reckoned that the icy water flowing into the gorge had killed them off.
I now have proof that there are fish in central Aus. Anyone want to open up a tackle store in Alice?
