WHY IS IT SO QUITE IN HERE

come on give us your best near miss story, that should make for a good read. what near miss you ask, doesn't matter car, boat, fish, just tell it

I was doing a patrol out of Pt Hacking one day, and noticed a big 38ft Sea Ray very close to the shore and almost into the surf line, off Oak Park. Someone on board was waving madly and I knew they needed help. Got the tow line ready as I motored over to them. I yelled out that it was a one attempt only as they were almost on the reef. He caught the line and hooked it onto the forward bollard as I went past. It was a short tow, luckily, and as the rope went taught, his bows came around and I crashed through a breaking wave. It lifted his boat clear and over. Towed him into Jibbon and checked the undersides. A few scrapes, but no other damage. The boat was called 'Pure Pussy' and it was like a high class bordello . The owner had a freight company, Rapid Transport, and we became friends after that incident. Had many fine times onboard his boats, the last one being a 58ft Sea Ray. No fishing on his boats, just fine dining and 'other stuff'.

What sort of "other stuff" ?? haha, sounds interesting!

On another occasion, I was taking a guy hunting for pigs. It was his first time hunting, and we were bashing through thick lignum, out west. I had drummed it into him, not, ever, to rely on the safety, but to leave the rifle uncocked until it was time to take a shot. He said, yes, etc, etc. I was walking in front of him, when a BOOM sounded behind me and I actually felt a shock wave hit my ear. I turned around to see him white faced and the rifle pointed towards me. He had the rifle cocked, safety off, and a twig had pulled the trigger as we bashed through the thick scrub. Never been hunting with him again. I reckon it was GOOD luck I wasn't hit - some may say it was bad luck.

Since kk brought up the topic of pigs you had to be there to see just how funny this was

Twas the 1st time we'd been pigging with dogs, long & funny a story to post so I'll get to where I really pissed myself laughing

Dogs had pinned this boar of around 90kg,Dan then gave the muts a rest & was holding pig down, he then called dave over to take over, dave was struggling a bit so I went & held pigs rear leg dave was now happy & smiling.

Dan went looking for the pup he wanted to start training, Pig started twitching & moving smile left daves face & it stated turning purple with a real worried look, he then asked me what to do if pig started getting up ??

I looked @ him trying to hold a serious face & said

Dave !

If you see me running, try & keep up & watch out for those swinging spiders they're very hard to see in the dark

How about a different close call. I was scuba diving off Hook Reef in the Whitsundays. We were in 90ft of crystal clear water and I had just speared, I mean secured, a monster coral trout. There was a big, fat bronze whaler going up and down the face of the reef and it was getting a bit toey. It would cruise up to us and then pick up speed and veer away at the last second. My mate Gary had a .303 powerhead on his spear and the three of us got in a circle, back to back. I was starting to use my air a bit quicker than normal, and Ron's bubble trail was a single column to the surface As the whaler was going to attack, Gary held out the speagun at arms length and the shark ran straight into it. He didn't even fire the gun, but the shark flipped 90 degrees and ploughed into the bottom. Dead as a doornail - thank goodness. This shark was around 8ft long and would easily have killed one of us. The trout was delicious.

Or this one - I was driving along Pt Hacking Rd at Lilli Pilli, when I spotted a guy standing next to a telegraph pole, pointing a rifle at me and my offsider. I hit the gas and when I was down the road a little ways, chucked a U turn. We got out and ran back towards the spot, where the guy was still standing. He saw two revolvers pointing at him and put the rifle down. I arrested him and when he got to Court the next morning, he told the magistrate he had full intentions of shooting a cop (the driver, who was me, first and then the offsider) and going to gaol so he could be with his brother. He got 6 months and I got a new change of undies - red ones.
