I was offered quite a few today about 30 off them for $50 each

I'd just bought quality life jackets for my goats & wasn't really that interested

Wot did turn me off the inflatables is that ewe have to get them inspected every 12 months & that didn't go down to nicely with me

Any wun interested in them ????????

If so show of hands & I may organise them just factor in the cost of inspections every 12 months & is it worth having a life jacket that needs that sort of service

Don't quote me on this but I heard you were allowed to 'self inspect' these inflatables then sign off on them yourself.

I cant see any benefit exept they sit flat on your body till inflated

I got two the other day and asked about the self inspection deal. Was told that if using it as a recreational fisho, then yes, at the present time that is allowable. If a yachtie, then they need to be inspected every 2 years at the present time. (that is for the CO2 cartridge - not for the jacket). May change in the future if the Gov can get a dollar or two from boaties. They can be manually inflated, so don't know if the inspection is specific to the CO2 cartridge only. At any rate, as I mostly fish alone, I can wear it if I want (or not) as it sits flat and is hardly noticeable. I have four 'standard' ones on board as well.

I was thinking of getting a couple of these when the wearing of life jackets became compolsory when crossing a bar.
Till that point I had never in my life put on a life jacket, not even to learn how to put one on. SAD I know but that's a fact,
And I have been through some mighty tough times out at sea.
Even now I cheat when going out from Bermi cause I don't consider that to be a bar, although the authorities do.
I should be more responsible and wear one all the time these days cause with my fitness level after having the heart attack 2 of,
and only having 1/2 a lung I would be lucky to be able to swim 20 yards these days, and treading water without a jacket
would have me buggered in no time.
Alas I will give them a miss for now. May get some further down the line when I think about it some more.
Buying new flairs every 3 years craps me right off so getting these things inspected each year craps me even further.

I think the zipper & two buckle up straps is the go Nimrod, I tried to put my old $10 cheapy on & couldn't figure out how to do it. at least not quickly that's for sure.
You're wise to know your limitations and take appropriate precautions that's why I'm replacing to next to useless jackets that I have now.

Fed. I have been boating for over 50 years now, I used to test boats for a boat magizine and have done everything from canoeing to 60 ft cruisers.
One thing I have always fallen down on, and am now quiet ashamed off is my complete lack in knowing how to put on different types of life jackets.
Moreso I am now ashamed that I have had literly thousands of passengers on boats I have been in charge of as skipper and neglected to ensure they knew how to put on a jacket in an emergency.
Guess it's one lesson in life I took a long,long time to learn.

I will mainly be using these off the rocks.

we use these at work and their fantastic you dont even know your wearing them....im going to get a pair for my boat when i find them for a good price (nd have time)
