G'day guys,
haven't been using the trailer for a while and yesterday had a look at it, the springs needs to be changed. I replaced the hubs a while ago,.
Today went and bought the springs, took the axle down. Man its much worse that I thought. Even the u bolts are so coroded its gonna be very hard even to unbold them. I'll take some pics and post it. I think i'm gonna need to cut them.
I can't believe how rust eats the metal so quickly...

Save your strength and just grind them off.
Since your giving it a service you may aswell change all the nuts, bolts and u bolts while your at it.

Grinding is the only way to go eh Salty?
Get yourself a pack of those very thin cutting discs they're something like 1 or 1½ mm thick and if you don't have a grinder or can't get one the little 4" ones are cheap as chips. (Jumpy will chime in if a 4" one is too small)
I've got a 5" Makita if I ever get it back from my son and you're welcome to use it, probably got some discs too.

Grinders aint meant to be used with cutting discs, thats how people lose fingers/arms/legs!!
Most worksites are banning the use of cutting disc's on angle grinders.. manufacturers also reccomend not using cutting discs..

Dont waste your time using a spanner best ewe can hope for is to shear the bolts, 5 second job with angle grinder but make sure ewe put up a shield if boat is still on trailer else the sparks will embed into glass, whre possible aim the grinder so as the sparks hit the ground.
Even better if ewe have wun is to use a big pair of bolt cutters they are non messy.
U bolts should allways be replaced if ewe think it twas a bitch trying to unscrew them tis just as bad rying re reuse the old wuns again

Just a thought Boris, jack it up & put 4 stands under the trailer frame, NOT under the axle.
I once saw a mate nearly kill himself lying under a car undoing U bolts while jacked up under the diff.

What I ended up doing is , I managed to unbold the bolds spring, so pulled the both springs and axle all together. Than cot the ubolts.

I haven't used leaf springs for yonks & yonks prefer the torsion setup I've been using
Look into a single spring rather than the leaf springs I know they're availabe cause I used them yonks & yonks ago beats rows of leaf springs cause a single wont rub & wear away galvanising like the multiple springs do.
Ewe must have sum sort of idea as to the weight of the boat through to make sure ewe get the correctly weighted spring
