Hardly worth a report, but no-one seems to be fishing or doing much on the water, so I thought, why not.
Bought a new caravan recently, so decided to head off for a few days to try it out. Shoalhaven Heads was close and looked like a very nice park. Had a walk around the river frontage and saw heaps of big mullet and whiting in the shallows, so tossed a popper and blade around for a while with no result.
That afternoon, I went across to the beach ( 7 mile beach ) and collected a few pippies. There was a nice deep gutter right out from the van park, so I tossed in a bait. After about 5 minutes, I got a good hit and landed a nice bream. That was repeated a couple of minutes later with another bream of 34cm and then a nice lizard and a thumping salmon. Then it went quiet, so packed up and headed back to cook them on the bbq. The salmon wasn't cooked, as there was too much for two people and I don't particularly like them that much.
The fish in the surf must really be opportunistic feeders and hit the baits so hard - not at all tentative. Also, when washing them up with a wave, they really take off in inches deep water, to get back out. Good fun.
I had a "Golden" brand baitcaster reel on the beach rod, which I had bought a couple of years back and only used once before. After a few dozen casts, the bail arm screw came loose and the arm packed it in. I can't figure out how to fix it, so it is going in the bin. Wasn't an expensive reel, around $70-$80, but I would have expected it to last a bit longer than two outings rolleyes.gif

Another grey nomad to contend with on the roads, do the kids aprove.
It's great fun to travel with your home behind you, I had my time in life travelling with home back in my early 20's when I first got married, was going to travel Australia with my beautiful bride, after a few months of travel we found out the wife was pregnant so headed home to join the real world. Caravaning is sure a great way to travel.

Me too Frank. Went around Aus with my new wife in 1975, for 7 months. (my only wife, in case you misread). Bought a new van when we got back to Sydney with intentions of heading off again. Got a job (as a Crim, JG would say) and had to postpone it until now. Just waiting to go grey before I decide I'm a nomad.

Nice report K-man.. It's good to read a few reports on here finally. rolleyes.gif

I have to say though, the only way you are going to catch a whiting on a popper, is if it hits the fish in the head and knocks it out hysterical.gif just jokes pal..

Good work super.gif
salty fil

Cant wait till im an old fella to pack it all up and do stuff like that.
