OK this is the Bass/Bream boat when I got it, bare shell.
I have started doing some work on it and will post some update photos.

Keep those shots coming frank, from what I saw the other day she's coming along very nicely!

I have not done any hatches as yet. Will make console tomorrow, and then see about getting some steering for it.
Once steering is in then I have to see Jed and get some material for the widened gunwales.
Here are a couple more photos.

Click to view attachmentHere is what is under the floor. I cut and tacked it all together. then pulled the lot out, tipped it upside down, and fully welded the joints.
Where the frame meets the boat it is all popped, not welded. If i ever have to remove the floor, I just drill out the pops.Click to view attachment

Great to see its coming together Frank. Looking forward to seeing what you end up doing with the hatches, am interested in seeing that as you know I'd like to do something similar with mine once I get around to it.

Have you decided what your doing with rod storage?

Jason. The only thing I have sorted out at this stage is the anchor and rope will be going up front .
Havent decided on any other storage yet, life jackets will have a compartment, safety gear close by in a grab bag, and first aid kit must have easy access, fire extinguisher will be clipped on the side of console, and I will have a tool kit stached somewhere, with the esentials in it, hopefully never to be disturbed, only for maitemence.
Beese I am going to make a rod locker seperate from the floor and build it under the gunwale, will hold 2 fully loaded rods.
I will have rod holders at suitable locations right round the boat.
When I'm up at Qld I will have a good look at the boats up there and it might give me some ideas.

Jason. When you are ready to do your storage and floors, I am happy for you to bring the boat here and we can built it up together. I can get the board cheap and Jed could do you a deal with the alloy.

Just a tip, I see you are using Plycorp imported formply , please seal the edges or you will be replacing in a very short time.

OZ First time I have used this particular stuff, is it just the edges that need protecting ? In some places the black coating is peeling away, would it be better to strip all the loose black coating off, and coat that area as well ?.
I am going to carpet the floor and wrap the carpet around all edges, so it's going to be a very time consuming job to shave enough wood off to allow a good fit when carpet wraps around the edges.
Would fibreglass resin be OK for the sealer ?.

I will have blue carpet on floor and console will be white.
Will have sounder on top, 27 mhz radio built in and will probably store tools and first aid kit in the console.
Haven't made up my mind yet wether to put hi rise windshield and stainless steel grab rails on or not.
Could have wrap around screen.

this is a project that could easily be done on a smaller older boat too..

Carpet will retain moisture Frank thus making it alot easier for water to penetrate

Mate by the time you fart arse about doing that & you really need some mat as well cause resin on it's own will eventually chip off.

Long term you're much better off replacing with alloy sheet.

When I did my wittle goat up I weighed up the pro's & cons, went with alloy as it was the best option

Jumpy. Bit late now mate. I did think of alloy but decided on the cheaper version. If some years down the track if the floor rots away, then I will again weigh up my options.
I am on a really tight budget with this boat, and I have to cut corners and go cheap wherever I can.
Using 2nd hand material wherever possible.
My crap Royobi jigsaw crapped itself yesterday, so had to go and buy new one. Got a makita so it should last a while.
It's heaps better then the ryobi ever was, but the wife bought the ryobi for me so I couldn't say no.

what he means is that with the cheaper product it will break ... or will not work probary ... n then you have too spend money getting it fixed and waste all that time when you could have bought the dearer product n had no problems at all

Sorry but that is an imported plywood that was reported to fail and a few other thing.
But for what your doung just give it a good seal all over and all should be ok.
If yah need a replacement just yall, and I will sell yah at cost a sheet of BS1088 marine plywood or a Tulsa filmfaced with mesh one side and fil other.
And I,m only at Parramatta not far from Lidcombe.

Finally pulled my finger out oz & finishing off that office space.

I;ll give you a call next week I'm after some masonite or MDF jusy 4 - 6 mm thick to cover the timber floor with so it dosen't get damaged as I'll be using that space to cut out profiles for the new goat.

So are you telling me my step son sold me an inferior product that needs to be fully sealed before it's any good for a floor in a boat.
I asked him to get me something suitable for the job.
There may be some conflict around the Nimrod household when I confront him about this one.

heyy frankk mate whaat sort of hull is that and how long is it ????

i have been thinking hard latey about buying a brand new hull 11ft hull and decking it out myself ... seeing as i cant find a good second hand tinny .... and then buying a new 6 hp tohatsu (cheaper motor run rougher but there built tough !!)

yeahh might be up for a few bucks !! anyone know of a cheap new hull .... i have in mine a quintrex 350 traveller ... there 1800 at hunts abut i think i could do a better deal else where !!


edi: forgot to mention what sorta motor did you buy for it ... i forgot ...hehe

It's a Aluminium Hull Daniel

It's made from aluminium

Daniel. The hull is a Quintrex JON boat it is 4.9 metres long 1.8 metres wide.
They are made in aust for export to America where they are sold as gun boats, mainly for duck hunters in marshes etc.
They are a very lightweight boat so they can easily be carried over fields etc and launched in places where heavier boats would be akward to launch.
You can't normally buy them in Australia, but there is about 5 of them still here.
Of coarse I am taking away the lightness factor with this boat and building it up much more heavy duty then it was.
I can't do anything about the thickness of material, but I can make the structure strong.
I got a 40 hp electric start, but manual tilt Tohatsu 2nd hand 2003 model.
