Well peeps did a sneaky sneaky out wide today on the water by lunch a bit of a slow trip out & all this time we had to listen to Dirk Diggler dreaming about catching his 1st YFT [ Mind you he had a stiffy all the way out as well ]
Pulled up on the spot I'd been getting the smaller YFT on of late & after the 1st drift decided to head out wider cause we had stripy's about taking the baits.
So off to another mark close to the 1000 meter line we went & Yep Dirk still had a stiffy all the way there as well
Started the cube trail & it wasn't long B4 the 1st run came about very slow & not charactoristic of YFT, turned out 2B one of those docile bloody blue sharks, Jim had hooked it up on 24 kg no real good shots as it bit through the leader b4 we had him up to the surface.
10 minutes later Jim hooked his 2nd Docile Blue Shark but this one bit him off after a couple of minutes, then one of them Docile Blue Sharks ate jumpus's bait & it didn't take long to get him to the boat on the 15 kg outfit, Dirk got some good shots of it on his camera up on the surface B4 I cut it off, now I'm not bad @ restimating weights & called it around 100 kg.
Well by this time I'd had enough of these Docile Blue Sharks boy are they Docile so decided to break the burley trail & move being a shool shark we'd get annoyed by them all arvo So I motored a couple of miles nth & started a new trail.
Water looked great temp 20 .6 degree's it took about 20 minutes B4 a 2nd rod I'd put out with a live yakka went screaming off, up went the drag lever on the tiagra & I told yep you guessed it Dirk Diggler to pick up the rod naturally he looked down the front of his pants untill I yelled out to him ??
Not that rod you Brurry Irriot the wun that's got the wittle fishy on the end of it
Anyways feeling sorry for Dirk I finally got him a Gumballs much to his relief, after that I was looking for my whip cause this fishy was plugging deep pecs out just riding the current, a few wittle tips later & Dirk was finally getting line back but this wittle fishy was still a long way down.
In between keeping the cube trail going I'd be checking up on Dirk & an hr after the hookup we finally saw colour Dirk had asked what it was & of course I couldn't help myself told him that we get bloody big flathead out there, Jim backed me up & Dirk kinda looked @ us all funny like not knowing wheather to believe.
Anyways fish in range in went the Gaff & what a rip snorta fish for his 1st YFT I guessed 55 - 60 kegger pic dosen't do it justice as it was velly fat no scales on board over 25 kg
So we weighed the head/frame @ 16 kg fillets @ 36 kg then there was the stomach loss of blood etc so I wasn't far off the mark.
Congrats Phill good effort for your 1st YFT taken on 15 kg tackle.
Cut a long story short shortly after that we had fin in the cube trail Jumpus hooked up & was going great gun until pop, I'm assuming another yft hit my mainline.
Re-rig 1/2 hr of light left my reel screams again this time I nailed him a much smaller fishy
Meanwhile the other 2 getting runs without hooking up time for me to wet a bait again after cleaning up & 1st feed out I was in again now this fishy was a howler bigger run much more weight, I hadn't bothered with the 1st wittle fishy but being dark now I called for the Gumball & Bum harness thought I give myself a free hand to throw out cubes whilst the other 2 guys were trying to hook up.
Well that backfired on me didn't it ??
Jim hooked up so we were on a double hookup my fish sitting down deep & jim's screaming along the surface, then I felt it Jim's line rubbing on my line & pop there goes my fishy.
Even with the floodlights on it's very hard to see where lines are going I could still see the YFT in the cube trail but couldn't be bothered re-rigging again I was going to release my fishy anyways, so Dirk & I had caught wun each & we decided to call it a day after Jim's fishy was landed.
@ a restimation Jim's fishy went a touch over the 40 kegger mark Phill may have some pics I'd packed the camera away by now as it had started raining again
The End
