Most GSM phones will automatically put them selves in Emergency Call mode when no service from your network is available... It will then look for another network to link with.. This will work even if phone is locked or has no sim card...

If no servicee is available at all it will not work, it does not connect to a saterlite..
poly
mines a very old phone rum so i will put it in, i do think u are wright about the newer ones though smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif
Spudly
even most old phones should do it poly..

When your in an area of no service and you press send it will come up with emergency calls only. Push send again to make the Call... Would be worth checking in your manual though..
poly
if i can find it i will mate smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

112 is the GSM international standard emergency number which can only be dialled on digital mobile phones. 112 can be dialled anywhere in the world with GSM coverage and is automatically translated to that country's emergency number. NOTE: This is For GSM Phones Only!!! This means If your on Telstra GSM but telstra have no signal, it will look for vodaphone or optus etc etc untill it finds a network that will have enough service to make the call..

3G Networked Phones should call the Normal 000...

It does not connect to saterlite, You still need to be within range of a GSM network.
A pirate

SECOND Have you locked your keys in the car? Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday.
Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their mobile phone from mobile phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of
miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other "remote" for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the boot).
Editor's Note: It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked our car over a mobile phone!"

THIRD Hidden Battery Power Imagine your mobile battery is very low. To activate, press the keys *3370# Your mobile will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your mobile next time.

FOURTH How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone? To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on your phone:
* # 0 6 # A 15 digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. When your phone gets stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.

This is the kind of information people don't mind receiving, so pass it on to your family and friends

may as well have this one too, it was from a email

For all Australian respondents... Telstra Phone book
Hi everyone,
For anyone contemplating using the Sensis directory service number, 1234, DON'T!
Sensis, as you may or may not know, is a subsidiary of Telstra. The 1234 number is replacing the Telstra 12456 directory assistance number, but this time with outrageous costs attached: 40c to call the number, then 4c A SECOND! From mobiles its $1.40 per call plus 88c to connect.
By law, Telstra have to provide a FREE directory assistance number , because they are still majority owned by the government. They choose however not to pass this number on to the public.
What's the free number? 1223
Thumbs down to Telstra for finding a way to 'charge', for a service that is supposed to be provided for free.
Of course, feel free to forward this on…
Sir Reel
If I could just add to that.
In Contacts Type the word ICE & put the number of someone to contact In Case of Emergency, just in case something ever happens to you others will know who to contact.

John heard the one about unlocking a car before and it is not possible with modern cars.
Whenever I hear of things like this I always check snopes.com. See for yourself
