Wasn't going to go fishing today, but the forecast rain never eventuated so I hit the road around
9.30am. Got to Waterfall and gave my mate Rick a call to see if he wanted to meet me. All arranged and we hit the ledge around 10.30am, after a tiring slog along the sandy tracks. Wow it was humid, this morning. There was next to no swell and very little wash, but first cast was only in the water for a minute before I had a fish on. Water was very clear but the overcast sky helped the conditions today. Rick wanted to catch a few pigs, so he fished with bread initially and first bait fell to a thumping bream. Happy days for him. I have a couple of friends coming for dinner tomorrow so I decided a change from the usual chicken or beef dish was in order, hence my decision to go fishing today. I have done the last few batches of niggers in beer batter and pan fried them in a couple of inches of peanut oil. They have been a hit with everyone who has tried them and there hasn't been any leftovers. Anyway, we were talking about todays session. The fish slowed down around 11am - that is they didn't hit the bait hard, just dragged it down and I was baited quite a few times. Shortened up to only 4ft under the float and things got back to 'normal'. I only need 6 fish and had them in the bag, so I tied on a bread fly for no interest in 15mins. Tied on a shrimp fly for a similar result. Didn't try a weed fly, instead going back to cabbage. Every cast got hammered within seconds of hitting the water and I decided to call it quits. Rick had changed over to a lighter leader and cabbage and landed four fish in quick time. I tipped mine out and saw that I had 15 fish. Kept a dozen - 6 for our dinner tomorrow and 6 for another mate who couldn't make it today. The walk back out with a few extra kg in the bucket, was killing me. Hope they get a bus service out there soon.
