Went out this morning for a quick fish. The bay was awash with whitecaps from the strong northerly and there were loads of birds working. Saw some pretty big splashes but it would have been very uncomfortable in a boat. Wind was around 60kph according to the weather station at Stanwell.
The floats were almost laying horizontal, with the wind dragging them across the chop. In hindsight, I should have stayed in bed. I was trying out the new Schneider Flouro Carbon leader in 4lb and it looked like a strand of hair. Landed four fish, two of which broke the line as I lifted them off the rocks. The raspy teeth of the fish would have weakened the line, as the hooks were well down their throats. All in all though, I think the lighter leader I was using, contributed to my landing four nice fish and John scoring a donut. Either that or I am just lucky.
