Having just returned from up north, I would like to buy my brother in law a new outfit. Bearing in mind the need to get the fish in fairly quickly, I am thinking of a 7kg - 10kg outfit. Any recommendations in the Viva range, Jumpus?
The gear will be used in the boat, and a threadline will be the go for him.

KK,
for the way he is fishing and the fish targetted up there I would suggest a VIVA Gold Stick 31008 6'6" 8-10kg Boat rod combined with a
Nereus NT 4000 or 5000 double drag Reel

I'd go something like a Shimano Starlo Stix or similar. I don't fancy glass rods, and prefer graphite or graphite composites.

Hey Goldfish,
I don't think that you can buy Shimano Combo's from VIVA.

Not a great loverof combo's think you're scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Much beter off picking out a rod then a reel to suit that way you get what you want & not what someones put together for you & told you it's a good deal.

I'd have to have a looky but think only glass rods are still available reels no probs with those can recomend a few.

But really need to know rod length prefered , line capacity on reel etc etc

Did have a play around with the new full alloy body spin reels 2day & was very impressed dont know when they're going to be released but if I get the go ahead I'll take a photo & post the specs on them.

Jumpy, that is what I meant when I asked you about the combo. I didn't mean a pre selected one, but rather, one that you could recommend. I think a 6.5 to 7ft rod. Line strength - 15lb and a reel to suit. Have the mats or bags come in yet?

there is one good thing about the old glass rods, they can take a lot of knocking around and still preform well. rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif
