The fishing today was not anywhere near as good as the past few weeks, but still managed a couple of nice fish off the rocks.
My two mates Bob and John asked me to take them for a fish, so we duly headed off to the RNP and after a walk, rigged the rods for a fish. The water was dirty and the building westerly was sending lots of floating ribbon weed and rubbish along the washes. Another old acquaintance, Harry, was also there and had three fish in the bag. Cast out and got one fairly quickly, so maybe I was wrong in my read of the water. John also hooked one and then Harry. Bob took a while to score, but landed a medium sized fish soon after. Then the wind changed a bit further and the bite slowed right down. I still managed to bring in fish fairly consistently, so had a talk to Bob and explained to him that we both had identical line, hooks, floats etc and the only variable was bait selection and rigging. I chose a cabbage leaf for him and showed him again, how to place the hook and half hitch it to the trace. He cast out and caught a fish within a minute. I called it quits and went to clean my fish. We stayed longer than normal - 2.5 hours - and I was actually a bit surprised when we tallied the catch. I had landed 8 fish, Harry had 7, John 2 and Bob 1. Eighteen fish from that small location between us and we had dropped 11 fish as well. I guess they are still there!!.
I think that I helped the boys with how to rig and select a "better" type of bait and it is only a little experience on reading what is happening with the float, before they start landing more fish.
My fish today ranged from 6 fish 37cm - 39cm and two at 42cm. Also, for the past month they have been males, but today there were four males and four females in full roe in my catch.
