Heys guys..

With winter around i haven't made much of an effort to go fishing.

In the past 2 months i've done 3 trips, one to Port Hacking where i got 2 Flathead, one to Botany Bay where i also got nothing, and one to Hawkesbury where i also got nothing again.

Then last week it all came back to me, i remembered this time last year was Snapper time. So i got my Stradic out, i got my Sol out, and i got my Gulp packets out and waited for good weather. I seen that today there was a one meter swell with 10 knot winds, that's good enough i said to my dad. I made burley and also bought some Fresh Pilchards for Floaters.

The plan was to leave home at 6, get to the ramp at 7 and be out at Long Reef around 7:30, to fish 2 hours either side of the 9:30 high tide.

Okay okay okay, so not all things went to planned. I woke up at 4:30 and waited round till 5:30 to wake dad up, but it took him 30 minutes to get out of the bed the lazy bugger haha. Finally getting dad up, and getting all the gear in the boat, we left home at 6:30, oh well, that's still pretty good. But no, about 5 minutes from Tunks Park the Commodore overheated. Great, more delays. After letting it cool down and getting some water for it, we launched the boat at 8:00.

We finally reached our destination, Long Reef it's self 20 minutes to 9.

With the first Floater out, within 5 minutes it was going crazy ! love the sound of the drag.

Up came a decent Trevally, nice, i'll keep that. Then first cast with my Soft Plastic i was on to a undersized Snapper. Looks like it's going to be a good day !

Things then went quiet for about 10 minutes and then bam, double hook up ! dad with his Floater then me with the Soft Plastics. Dads fish got off, thinking it was a big Trevally, then the 3rd rod went off almost straight away !

I reeled in a 32cm Snapper and had it in the net, with dad just behind he got another Trevally. It was another decent sized one.

Then the next cast i hooked up to something that felt heaps heavier, i thought it was a decent Snapper but it was a dirty Sergent Baker.

After that all things went quiet. Dad managed to hook another Trevally 20 minutes later which was again decent sized.

An hour pasted by quickly without any action (i think it was due to the tide turning) and my head was sore and spinning (I have the flu, didn't stop me from heading out in the freezing cold though!)

So we moved to North Head and had a few quick cast, nothing around again, i was buggered and all i wanted to do was sleep so we headed in at 12.

Not a bad little session, i need to stock up on my Gulps again and i will be hitting the Snapper again soon

(Yes i look sick, i feel like crap too..)

A beautiful day out on the water nevertheless smile.gif

Good read mate, it's been around 40 years since I fished the Long reef area, good to see it's still possible to catch a fish or 2 there.
I always enjoy reading your reports and keep them coming.

Youre dedication and committment to the sport even whilst you were sick is second to none champ.
