Finally had a day off work and after a bit of work on the van, dropped the kids off at school and headed for the bay!
Launched at Kymeeagh-what a great set-up! headed out and decided to have a leisurely troll along the drop off just off brighton, caught 3 taylor was happy to get some lure action then proceeded to give Jacks failsafe a go and drifted around the middle of the bay....2nd drift and picked up a nice flounder along with many small snapper...A couple of drifts later and a sand flathead decided to join the flounder in the fish bag! The weather started to turn a little nasty so I headed back towards brighton and had another couple of drifts for another flathead and a few dozen more small snapper and a couple of taylor....Three legal fish on board, rain just starting to fall so I headed for home...... Weather was great, was comfy in shorts and t-shirt, light southerly blowing and the fish tasted great! Good stuff mate.
Strange how the weather started to turn foul. We had it good up here, only just started blowing about 2 hours ago. |

Not that good a fish producing area you fished storms .
That part of the Bay has no area's to really hold fishy's you need to do a bit of looky looky hands off chooky research into the Bay to find the more productive spots. Again the Bay allways fish's better in the arvo's in my view smaller tides prob are a key factor. Also dont get conplacent using the same ramp if I'm taking the wittle boat out wind direction will determine which ramp I use & will tow all the way to woop woop sth side if need be -------------------- Save The Fish, Eat a Pussy |

Only used 2 ramps to launch at the bay so far JG, the container terminal one which tends to be smelly and on weekends very busy and the Kymeeagh one which is real nice! Any others you would recommend closer to the Georges mouth?
Ok I'm gonna bite, if the spots I fished aren't the best this time of year would you point me in the direction of somewhere better, I'm planning on heading out early tomorrow to catch the high tide and your local knowledge would be appreciated! Cheers guys, maybe i'm being a bit hard on myself but would really like to come home with enough fish for the whole family, mind you the Mrs and kids have been enjoying my catches of late and they've been kind enough to save me a bite or two! Ramp will depend on area 2B fushed
QUOTE Would really like to catch a snapper or two but some bream, trevalley and flathead would be great!.... As far as snapper go really think you need 2B out near the heads for decent sized ones may get lucky & find them around the runways but they're generally throwbacks. Oil wharf will produce keepers on it's day but no probs getting blurters there along with nice brimus. Trick is to use burley & I favour a visual burley trail like bread if targeting blurter very little if any lead 1/2 a pilly is no prob. Flathead ?? Well towra does produce on a runout tide but you really need to know the area if not it makes it hard. -------------------- Save The Fish, Eat a Pussy |
