Left Or Right Hand Options

everytime I get a new reel in australia I need to switchover the handle to left hand side because I like to keep my rod in my strongest arm to potentially battle that monster fish that is silly enought to take my bait. In Holland where I grew up reels always used to have the handle on the left by default (if memory serves me right).
What would be autralian importers logic be behind making you hold the rod with your weak arm?

If you watch fishing shows on tv and they are hooked up to something decent it just looks awkward the way they battle them

Only reason people call their right arm stronger is because they dont ketch enuff wittle fishy's to develope muscles in their left arm

Jack i'm right handed & have no probs lifting rod with left arm, arm is just a lever think co-ordination is more important than strength & if your right handed co-ordination is alot easier with your right hand.

Have tried handle on l/h but found co-ordination just wasn't there.

Further overhead game reels bet all those guys who use threadlines with L/H handles will use overheads with R/H handle & there's alot more weight on their left arms.

Tis not about strength it's all about technique

I hear that your right hand is over developed, Fed. Too much cranking in your younger days. I'm left handed, so am happy to wind a reel with my right - or vice versa. Feels more comfortable winding right handed though,

so what about casting then. Do u cast with the hand higher that holds the rod, or swap hands to wind.

Im right handed , wind with right hand & cast with right hand high

I always cast with my right arm, i always reel with my right arm lift with my left, tired swapping, but it just didn't feel right

Cast left or right, depending on obstructions, but mostly with left arm.

Did see a guy on TV a couple of weeks ago who had a handle on both sides of the reel.

I do know him well, but agree 100% with you about his show,, worst fishing show on tv with 3/4 of the show with his ugly face taking up 1/2 of the screen.
The 2 handed winch he uses is for draging in 100 kilo + bluefin Tuna, what I call stunt fishing for the camera.

I use right hand for both casting and winding with threadlines, with baitcasters I sometimes use my left arm to cast, like KK depending on the lure placement needs.

I usually cast with one arm only (no beach fishing) and it is done with my right arm. My right hand never leaves the rod and since I am used to winding with my left hand there is no need to swap hands after the cast.

My baitcaster is also left hand wind

Reason I asked was that during a a recent bottom bashing charter using overhead reels my left arm was hurting dragging the lead and fish from 70 meters using my left arm, so I resorted to what they do in television shows a lot and that is lift with right, swap and reel with right, swap and lift with right etc etc etc.

So maybe I am not the same as most population but my right arm is stronger and can handle extended workload a lot better than my left arm (I am right handed) so for me it makes sense to have my fishing rod in my right arm.

If I need to cast left handed I do a right handed backhander.
Thinking about it I also swap lifting hands or use both hands sometimes too.
My usual casting hand position is 2 fingers either side of a threadline reel stem and laugh at people who feel the need to squeeze the line against the rod grip with their forefinger when casting.

Jack. There is no right or wrong way to do it, whatever you are used to keep doing it.
70 metres A,,,,, just wait till you have to lift 50 kilo of fish from 200 metre depth
Don't watch too much fishie shows on the idiot box, it will teach you bad habits.
