My 2 bobs worth...

I have a Scotty 1050.. No frills and does the job perfectly. I can see the bomb on my sounder, but i just switched the sounder back to feet to stop my confusion. It has wire that is fine, but it has hummed twice when i was out.. Dont know why it only does it sometimes, but it does. But a King took our little squidy mid hum smile.gif so i dont care about it .. hahaha

I dont use the rod holder that comes with it, I use the one on the boat, but it is loaded at all times with no slack..

Also, mine is installed with the arm pointed out to the side, not out the back near the motor. I have enough problems with tangles without having another one (Dont touch that one Jumpy) hysterical.gif hysterical.gif

Regarding squid; My catch rate is improving each trip out, but Jumpy has this seriously sussed... I feel sometimes people make it harder than it has to be at times... No need for a $30 jig, if you find the school...

Thanks bees
Jumpy should make his own video on squiding to catch girly fish, as long as he doesnt wear his mankini, it would sell like hot cakes.

Wish we had more kingys down this way, they are so hard to find and when we do they are on its only the rats.
Now I have bite the bullet & feeling very broke. I hope we can find them in deeper water.

It was such a hard desion as no one I know has a downrigger in batemans bay, come to think of it I havent seen any at the ramp either. Had the same problem when I bought my Electric motor, now everyone has one. Now im alittle dissapointed I didnt get co- pilot.

So with that in mind I went for the Cannon Mag 20 and cannonlink. Shoped around and was able to save heaps. Got it at half price.
Now I await nervously until it arives.

Still haven't heard mine hum, maybe it's the way I setup opposed to others or a GooDarus logical explanation is it's simply wind would explain why you've only heard it a couple of times DF

Yeah really think there's alot of wanker experts going around in regards to squidding esp with sum of the comments I read not much I can do but to hysterical.gif hysterical.gif

All self confessed experts who prob only fish for them wunce in a blue moon, I've allways been able to ketch squid but have to admit last 12 months I've put in alot of time & effort chasing them so have a pretty goodarus idea how to get them.

No different to fush there's times they shut down & this from my observation occurs when water is dirty, they're still there & eager to feed but unless your jig lands on top of them ewe'll miss out.

Think I freaked latest member out danch777 when I took him out for an hr or so chasing the swiperly wittle buggers even have a song 4 Danny Boy hysterical.gif

Oh Danny boy, the SQUID, the SQUID are ZOTTING
From ear to ear, and down the MINI ME side
The summer's gone, and all the KUNGS are biting
'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must hide.
Oh Danny boy, the SQUID, the SQUID are ZOTTING

John there's nut ting hard about it I just get a laugh looking @ vids like the wun ewe posted peeps make it look to hard no matter wot I fush for I keep it simple these guys complicate things esp when they start with all that tech nonsense bullshit.

I do have camera mounts on the goats & just operate vid camera with remote control, have to admit I haven't taken it out since a couple of years back chasing yft

Looks like a great location, might have to plan a trip up that way.
We plan on going to Monagaue when the kingies come on. Bar seems better than the Bay here.
Whats the ramps & bar like at JB

I dont know your areas, but they are everywhere up here. Just get a few locations under your belt and frequent them all during your session. Once you get everything set up, you will see them on your sounder around the bait schools and most times know when your going to get a hit.

I'm learning still, but i downrigged where i get my livies (inside), cause the seas were crap and got them there... I thought I was wasting my time hysterical.gif I even get squid there now as well.. Makes sense smile1.gif

Hmm follow the ducks? Wonder what would happen if I followed the Swans.
That button could be handy if you wanted to lock the boom arm out of the way. Do you take your down rigger off when not in use?

I was reading the manual on the cannon downrigger about Positive Ion Control.
QUOTE
It allows you to use electricity to control this charge on your downriggers. It applies a variable .2 to 1.2 Volts to the trolling cable at all times.

All metal parts, including the hull if metal, motor, thru hull fittings must be connected using a bonding wire. The zinc anodes placed on your hull, propeller etc protect the metal from natural corrosion that occurs when metals of different types that are physical or electrically connected and immersed in sea water. If your boat and zincs are set up correctly, the voltage on the stainless downrigger wire should be positive when submerged.

Commercial fisherman know that fish, especially certain species, are attracted to positive charge and repelled by negative charges.

So how would I check that, anodes appear fine and whats this about a bonding wire? Is that just an earth to the battery, what if i run more than one battery systems like a 12 and 24 volt system.

They'll du anything in a bid to sell sumting
Surprised no wun has suggested rubbing scent on bombs to attract more girly fish to the boat

John your goat is plastic only place it earth's out anywhere is through the motor's earth straps

PAy no attention to thse utterly stupid claims about enticing fish using electoticity

Found a download for my Cannon mag20 downrigger
And found some more info on

QUOTE
The Short Stop System
The Short Stop system is composed of three
critical components: the electronic unit, the reel set
screw, and the trolling weight insulator.
While the downrigger cable is in the water, there
is a minute electrical current that flows between the
cable and the grounded metal boat components in
the water. When the cable clears the water, this
current flow will stop. The Short Stop system senses
this interruption and turns off the motor. The trolling
weight insulator is used to break the cable contact to
the water while the weight is still in the water. The
reel set screw allows the circuit path to be made
through the structure of the downrigger.

But wait there is more hope the pic is clear enofgh.

QUOTE
Measuring the Natural Electrolysis and PIC
Voltage on Your Boat
A voltmeter with a scale of zero to one volt will
measure the natural electrolysis. Place the ground
lead of the meter on the motor or the battery
ground. Place the positive lead on the stainless
steel downrigger cable while it is in the water. The
downrigger must be unplugged. The voltage you
measure on the volt meter is your boat’s natural
electrolysis voltage. Use the same set up to
measure the PIC voltage; just plug in the Mag 20
DT and adjust the PIC knob to the voltage
desired.
Using Positive Ion Control
Positive Ion Control is very effective when
trolling. The zone of attraction created at the
downrigger wire will attract the fish. It is best to
use a short drop back between the downrigger
release and the lure. Drop backs of 10 to 20 ft. are
typical. A drop back of 50 to 100 ft. will entirely
negate the effects of the PIC circuit. Fishing
depths greater than 125 ft. may require a slightly
higher PIC voltage. If you return to shallow water
fishing remember to turn the PIC voltage down
again.
The correct PIC setting for your best fishing
advantage varies, depending on fish type and
location. For example, the proper setting for Puget
Sound Steelhead may not be effective for Great
Lakes Steelhead. To fully benefit from PIC
technology, it is important that you experiment
with the PIC setting to find the proper voltage for
the gamefish in your area. For more information
on this subject, refer to “Secrets of Fishing with
Electricity” by Ollie Rode.

Somehow I dont think it work as good as this video,

http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=46f_1237671541

and some of it is probably dribble but it seems important for the auto stop feature.
Jumpas you would have a electric current on your downrigger wire i would think. May not be ajustable but would be intresting to measure it with a vault meter.

Closest ramp for you would be either murrays beach or huskison (Wollamia) .. Both are good ramps, easy for your boat anyway.. murrays, make sure ya lock the car.. its prob not as bad now but years ago used to be a prob with theives but now it costs $10 to use and the cops patrol it fairly regularly..

Like I said john they're talking utter bullshit

Current can only flow when + & - run through a circuit & that will only happen when the circuit is activated via the switch button & ewe only engage that button when you're retrieving the bomb.

Your goat being plastic & glass boats are an insulator to the water unlike Alloy goats

BUT all boats have their donks in the water & all donks have earth straps which in turn do relay current back into the water cant be helped
