Heading down to lake Eucumbene for 3 day week end Fri Sat Sun, they tell me they are having mild weather at the moment and the week end should be
around 0-15 degrees, bought some new snow boots to keep my tootsies warm and looking forward to getting on the water.
If I end up catching a fish or 2 I will put up a report on my return.

Didn't get on the water till Saturday morning owing to one of the guys having to work Friday morning,
and driving down took some time.
put the boat in just at sun up, bit later than we wanted but still earlier then everyone else as we were the first cab off the rank at the boat ramp.
motored out to other side of lake and all of a sudden a wind squall came up and blue the guts out of everything, about 40 knots and it wasn't long
before we were in 1/1/2 metres of uncomfortable cold chop. I thought Welcome to Eucumbene and was thinking a long drive just to sit in a cabin
for 2 days.
However we found a bay that was sort of tucked in out of the wind and we set out a spread of lures and started trolling.
We had 2 lead lines out and 2 downriggers set to work 5 feet above the bottom. we done 3/4 of a lap of the bay and got a double hook up
on the lead lines, hit the auto up on the downriggers and played the 2 nice Rainbows in, each went about 54cm and a real good start to my
first time fishing lake Eucumbene, so the place is not as bad as I thought.
Done another lap of the bay without a take, although we seen the occasional fish on the sounder. Decided to head away from that bay and find another
and just as we were rounding the bend and was going to pull lines in and motor down to find another spot, one on the other lead lines got a hook up, so
3 fish out of the first bay in the first hour of fishing the lake.
the wind was starting to settle down a bit but was still uncomfortable, geese I thought this lake fishing was supposed to be calm weather fishing, it felt like
we were out in the salt brinie getting thrown about in the chop, anyhow we persavered with the conditions for a while and slowly worked our way
to another spot that the skipper thought would produce some fish.
We trolled around for another hour or two and the wind settled down to a steady 10 knots or so.
Still not real good conditions for lead line trolling around the shallows.
only got a couple of other browns for the day and after having sandwiches and coffee and some ribbing og each other we decided the wind was
simply too hard to be really productive fishing, so headed back to the ramp.
As it turned out, out of all the other crews that were out fishing, and most of them locals that knew what they were doing, we had the best catch of the day.
A small community like that everyone knows who caught what at the pub that night while having a double rack of lamp for tea.
Walked back to the cabin and flaked out, everyone was knackered.
Sunday morning we beat the sun and was on our spot before the sun came up over the hill tops.
trolled leadcore lines with Tassie devils around all morning for a few fish here and there, all toll we only got the 2 Rainbows and all the rest were Browns.
All the fish caught by other boats were all browns, we were the only ones that caught any rainbows.
Headed home Sunday arvo and haven't even fully unloaded car yet.
Will post a photo or two as soon as my mate sends them to me as I never took the camera on the boat.

I took a photo of my share of the fish when I got home but my computer has decided it doesn't want to play with my camera now, worked fine last time I used it.
Might throw this computer where it belongs and start using the lap top.
All in all I had a great time, first time I have been to the lake and would not hesitate to go again some time in the future, but in the spring time might be better next time.
My poor old bones doesn't like this cold weather bit, even though it was quiet mild conditions, spring would be nicer.

This is the only photo taken of any of the 6 fish caught on the week end, perhaps next time I should hold the fish
out in front of me close to the camera lens to make it appear bigger .
It was very nice on the dinner plate.
