Couldn't get out for some real fish, so went for a quick fish off the stones this morning. Hiked out to the ocean rocks in the RNP only to be greeted by 4ft swells crashing over the rock platforms. a 40min hike back to sheltered waters before we wet a line. Found some fresh cabbage sprouting in the rock pools and had a strong take within seconds of hitting the water. A nice solid fish of 40cms. I thought it was going to be a hot bite, but not so. Must have been the lone ranger. Hooked up to Tonto about 5 mins later only to have it throw the hook at my feet. The receding wash took it back as I was about to pick him up. Moved 50m back and fished over sand for the next hour. Bites were tentative, with the float going down a few cm then rising again, then going down once more. Average strike time was 5 secs of leaving it under. John and I landed five fish each and I dropped two at my feet. I had one on for about 5 mins and it took line as well as swimming under the ledge at my feet. Blackfish can be easily coaxed out again and fight relatively cleanly. This fish put up a great fight and I eventually got it washed up a sloping ledge. Didn't quite make it over the lip and was lying high and dry on the slope. I bent down to pick it up as a bit of wash coming off the rocks behind me, hit it. It flipped around and snapped my 4lb leader as it made for freedom. That was the biggest nigger I have caught for many years and was in the hight to mid 40cms. The ones that get away don't count though. All fish were males, getting ready for spawning if the white milt spurting out was any indication. Maybe they just got excited. Who knows. Shaping up to be a good few months and if the size is an indication, then we may get some good sized fish (for blackfish). Got two at 40cm, one at 38cm and the rest were between 34cm to 36cm.
Two guys showed up as I dumped the fish out of the keeper net and bled them. Forgot to take pics and a photo of white fillets hardly looks as good.

Yeah, I doubt it Fed. You don't get out often and they don't let you across the border.
Went out yesterday and got 6 nice fish. A group of middle eastern fishos almost went beserk when I kept three and released three at the end of my session. As I walked past their location I saw a 1m Port Jackson in a rock pool, dead. They, or someone else, had killed it and left it in the rock pool. Unbelievable!!. Plastic bait bags, beer bottles, tackle and other garbage lying in all the pools around their spot. I did take a pic this time Fed.
