I would think you all know what its like to wake up at 3.30 in the morning ready to head down the coast only to find it raining like hell and blowing even harder so the new outfit will have to wait another week to be blooded.
my old reel had died big time while fighting a good size jew, so no more spin reels to be used off the beach. its back to the reels I know best and that's the alvey brand having grown up with them, the new reel is a 6500CVRR matched to an custom beach king 13foot 6 or 4.1mts line weight 5to10 kg. Paul Jeeze they are making them fancy these days ain't they. Ever seen the geared alvey 2 turns of the spool to one turn of the handle ?. Had one about 10 or so years ago and sold it, never seen another one since. -------------------- Frank

Pretty flash poly but they're still old line twisters by design, does the rod have a big stripping guide on it?
Caught my first YFT on an old Alvey knucklebuster. -------------------- SEAFARER: Fine as a Fairy's Fart |

with care the twist can be minimised by the use of the correct swivel and yep it has a monster stripper
this is the formula the rod is built to there is an open guide 360mm or 14inchers from the centre of the reel seat. Paul

What do you mean by 'open guide', I don't get it? Line holder hook. Looked for my antique bakolite alveys yesterday, and looks like they were part of the haul that was stolen several years ago,,,when all my game gear went for a walk,, never realised they were missing. -------------------- Frank

You mean the little gizmo to hook your hook to, I thought it was something special.
I've lost a heap of stuff over the years Frank mainly borrowed buy mates & employees but I still have Jumpy's binoculars that he left on my boat 30 years ago so I guess it's a bit of a 2 way street. -------------------- SEAFARER: Fine as a Fairy's Fart |

What do you mean by 'open guide', I don't get it? its is what it is, a guide, as you can see from the diagram of the guide spacing's, its a long run to the striper so when retrieving, the line is slipped in to the guide it helps keep it all strait and manageable. its time for a coffee want one????????????????????????????
