Just finished night shift and plying around with some spare gear thats floating around and got to thinking...

When fishing fresh water with snags and hidy holes for them natives to hide in ive noticed some people run 20lb even 30lb lines... not for strenght but for the added cover if it takes you under a log or submerged snag then you got a bit of stick to get it back out....

So Ive found an old Shimano Callisto and a roll of 20lb fire line and spooled it up, had a few cast in backyard and can cast it maybe 25m, which seems like nothing but in terms of fresh water most rivers around here arnt even close to that wide....

Just wondeing on your thoughts.. its not a reel that i expect to use much if ever but yea, well it filled in some time!

Chad it sounds like a good set up for casting COD Lures, if you go spinning fo Murray Cod , get some 6 to 8 inch big cod lures or some Aeroplane Propellor lures ( if you have ever seen them) and you will have the perfect outfit for casting cod lures in the Rivers.

thats fine Rum 20lb if you can cast but its usually the leader you want to beef up , think nowdays I use 10lb and 20 -30 lb leader thats if im fishing in impoundments , lots of times ya hook fish in timber city. and they go for the closests tree / branch/ and wrap you and if that hapens your usually got buckleys

in rivers I use 6lb main - 10lb leader

unless there is heavy structure no need to go heavy.

Rum if you're having probs casting out the 20lb line just jump into the water & swim the lure out to where you want it to land.

But a word of warning !

Keep an eye out for the Killer Long Neck Tortoises
