i have been think about this for a wile now, which is best outboard inboard or shaft drive for boats over 6mts to me an inboard makes the most sense with it low center of gravity and lower fuel consumption and greater toque, also do u feel the jet system is better than a leg and prop. i look forward to your reply's as i think there is much to be gained from this conversion

its a lot extra S.C. as i have been told the new volvo D3 stern drive around $40.000 thats LOT OF PETROL and when u think a new E-TEC 250hp is about $26.000 and do the same job and i would also think the servicing costs would be higher for the D3 :o :o :o

Wastse of time having a inboard in a boat unless you're getting towards the 8 meter + range or you're just after a LaDeDah boat.
A 6 meter boat does not have the room for a inboard if it's a fishing boat you end up with a great big box in the middle of the boat. QUOTE i reakon any disel inboard, soo cheap too run and they hardy break down Daniel think again, unless you baby the throatles on a diesel like any other motor you'll be going the the fuel not to mention diesel is around 12 cents a litre dearer @ the bowser so it's not that practical. Diesels come into their own if you're say trolling all day @ low revs that's when they use bugger all fuel BUT the 4 banger outboards today are very very economical on your larger boats esp if you keep the revs down. Difference is a 4 banger bolts on & off & the cost is reasonable you fit the equivellent inboard in diesel & have it turbo charged then you're tripling the price of powering up the boat & this really needs to be addressed in the boats runing costs. -------------------- Save The Fish, Eat a Pussy |

so very true j g the only big advantage to the in board that i see is the added stability u gain from the lower center of gravity, there is another way to look at that big box i the middle of the boat it can be used as a bait prep table in a fishing boat don't u think

6mtrs is a trailer boat and it it is for fishing you cannot beat an outboard for room.
Yes and inboard gives a lower centre of gravity but a motor further up the back is better for speed. An outboard is also trimable. Then again you might have been takling about launch like the Marshall Lord 20ft and a diesel is perfect. -------------------- Don't tell anybody but my name is Fushin Freddie

S.C.please don't think i am trying to knock your ideas in any way, u do have a good point with the diesel saving in the day to day running of the boat but u have to add to that the other costs.
here is a boat that to my way of think is a bit cheaper to run if the figures given are wright, and has over come the big box problem with a little bit of thought, i would not like to own a boat like her, she is to open for me as an out side boat, some of u Sydney sider's may know this boat have a looky http://www.boatsonline.com.au/boats/ed.html?de=23898 -------------------- bugger it's sold, got meself a house instead

Was on the Harbour yesterday & we pulledup along side that Queen Victoria thingy boat Geez I reckon it would've been a spectacles popping the bonet & seeing what she had under the hood
Then there was all these joy rider goats, one pulled up & tied off to the wharf @ Rose Bay picking up passengers. Somehow dont think the fuel economy would be to crash hot on that got with 3 x 300 hp suzuki's on the back. -------------------- Save The Fish, Eat a Pussy |
