Haven't been down to the rocks for a fish, in a few weeks. Today was just another glorious session in the shelter of the cliffs. Water was glassy smooth with just a small swell and wash lapping against the ledge. It wasn't until mid tide that I even got my feet wet. Humpback whales were cruising past on their way north and pods of dolphins were also heading the same way. Sun was out and wind was from the NW, making it almost an Autumn day for us. Mick was already there when we arrived and had one or two in the keeper net so John didn't waste any time getting a bait in. I had to re-rig and get changed, so it took me a little longer. John was into a fish right away and had a second landed before I had even cast in. Of course, they slowed down then and although fairly consistent, they weren't in a feeding mood. Found out as we were filleting them that they were full of milt and in spawning mode, so had other things on their minds rather than eating. We fished for two and a half hours before calling it quits. Another group of 'fishos' arrived and set about spearing every crab they could find, for bait. I told them that crabs were very hard to find to which they agreed. Also mentioned that they had killed them all over the past few months. There used to be dozens of them in the crevises on this section of the coastline. Anyway, not much we can do about preservation here. Cleaning took a while and I kept my bag, as I had a couple of friends to feed over the next couple of days. John landed four fish, Mick got nine and I fluked it again with thirteen, one of which was released.
