Wind, weight distribution and chop I get......Tide or current will effect planing ability but wont change actual on water speed if using sounder with speed reading.....Driving with current, current moving at say 4kmph, boat @ WOT hits say 60kmph boat will still only do 60kmph....going into current again @ 4kmph, boat @ WOT again 60kmph, boat will still only do 60kmph.....if using GPS for speed reading with current boat would be travelling @ 64kmph maybe a little mpre, into current boat would be going 56kmph-I expect probably less........when I first read your JG post this is where I got confused-a few posts later things became clear-most like me read the first line or two then lose concentration on anything beyond that if not amused or v-interested.....Maybe insert 'BIG TITS'...............'HOT BUNS'.............OR.........TIGHT PUSSY.......every few lines to keep the brain juices flowing.

You guys really dont get it

I said that nowhere what i said was current will put load on motor thus motor not achieving rpm add to that initial reason for slow accend which i suggested to be weight aft add to that head wind with chop & there's the reason for the extra time required to achieve plane & boats top end speed

HaHa, I just checked the planing thread and now they're saying all things travel at the same speed in the tide but they forgot about air resistance that they brought up earlier, they can't have it both ways.
All things travel at the same speed but only if the wind speed & direction are the same as the tide too.

KK, can you explain to me how a non-powered plane can do 400MPH, this is not a trick question mate, I just don't get it?

I'm gonna have a stab at it....Its kinda like windsurfing which I'v done plenty of....when at the correct angle to the wind you can be going faster than the wind speed ie: 15kt wind, 8m sail 17" fin have recorded over 20kts board speed-with a plane if you take into account the option to travel downwards in a stiff breeze with enough elevation to dive a distance I guess you could get some serious speed-my question would be was the plane assisted or towed to a certain height prior to its dive-400 is bloody fast and for the plane to be able to get up high enough would need a large wingspan then the wings would create too much drag to reach that speed-maybe the wings were retractable?

I could try, but as you say - you just wouldn't get it. biggrin.gif
Have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_soaring or http://www.hsl.org.au/articles/ds.pdf

windsurfers and sail boats can go faster than the wind speed because they create their own apparant wind. Skiffs, windsurfers, even the large super maxi's can do this now.

The characteristics that allow a boat to plane depend on so many things, hull design, power, weight balance just to name a few.. All boats are a displacement hull unless the power (sail or motor) is enough to break the water pressure from the hull... (look into dynamic lift or dynamic positive pressure..

Very easy for a flat bottom windsurfer, easy for a skiff, or ski type hull, harder for a large V bottom and Very hard for a large boat or yacht.

No idea on the rules for aircraft?

Got it, using inertia to maintain SOG while picking up airspeed when crossing the boundary, completely different to a sailing boat with a keel.
Would those planes have removable weights for different wind speeds KK?

No, they are balanced on the C of G and the only change made is the amount of control throw. Only tiny deflections required at those high speeds.

pisses me off when you post some replys to posts and then go back to look and they are deleted....

Fair enough if youve done somthing offensive or upet someone (they are all thin skinned females on fishnet) but a PM to let you know why or what would be nice instead of just removing them with no reason!
