Jumpy. Pulled the sideplate off my T I G and had a look and the switch, all wires firm so took swithc out and seperated it and the main shaft was broken.
Now to buy new switch, found one in Great britain but haven't see anywhere in Australia as yet that sells them.
Might have to pay a visit to Unitig but they will charge an arm and a leg for the bloody thing.

TIG must've been a omen Frank
Bloody had to pull out my tig 2day & use it
Went for a fush this morn & wind came up when i came in bloody wind banged the arse of the goat into the wharf pretty hard cracked elevated part of transom.

Stoped off @ sea sea on way home & ripped the motor off, good excuse for a sevice

Chris reckons most customers tend to leave their boats as well hysterical.gif hysterical.gif

Like I said tu ewe my machine breeze's through the alloy was welding 4 mm to 6mm no probs & only had to push it up to 120 amps

Yours has to be the switch wouldn't even bother looking @ the wires velly GooDarus guess the contacts are stuck on wun setting cause when i got ewe to flick the switch whilst tryig to weld there was no increase in amps.

Good chance if switsh is pulled apart may be fixable.

Hey Fed next time Ryan comes around for his weekly loan hysterical.gif hysterical.gif

Ask him to stop in @ his old workplace they do carry the UNI machines & may very well have a 2nd hand switch lying around

Had a dream last night saw the bright light thought i was on my way to heaven till i realized it was Mr Shinny Head hysterical.gif

Frank just a thought may not be the switch itself recall It'll having to send his machine back for repairs
The electronics on these new machines are great allows ewe to pump up the amps whilst still on 240 volt but there's these wittle doberlacky's in the machine which alow ewe to do this [cant recall wot they're called]

If these are blown then the switch is rendered useless even though there may be nothing wrong with the switch

Jumpy. The shaft in the switch is broken and it is stuck on #1 setting.
While I have your attention, IS it OK to weld mild steel with ARGON ?.
I have to do some welding on my car and have ran out of MIGSHIELD and only have ARGON.
I have to go to BOC and open a new account and get some gas, but I have a almost full bottle of ARGON and would like to use some of it before I have to hand the bottle back in, as it's not my account that owns the bottle it's my old work and they now don't want to keep paying for the rental.
Do you have a empty bottle down there and I could swap you a near full bottle.
I just don't want to hand in a near full bottle of ARGON and then pay to hire another one.
BTW E size bottle

PS This may sound like a stupid question coming from a guy with over 40 years welding experience, but I just have never tried it, always used the appropiate gas.

Mr Shinny Head pointed that out 2day when I had to take him to the nursing home for his daily enima hysterical.gif

Was a bit on the buggered side last night & only saw broken

ps] I have repaired snaped shafts on those types of switch's in the past AC/DC switch was the last , if shaft is nylon/plastic [which they generally are] drill down the guts on both ends & inset a sleeve then drill across that sleeve & pin it.

Shit yeah tis alot cleaner gas than what they try selling ewe in the shops just more expensive than the other stuff thats all

Even better if ewe have sum s/s filler rods they weld beautifully to mild steel, ewe dont get any carbon popping up through the welds.

Well after a couple of working days and not hearing from Krausnaimer I gave them another ring. They have a switch ( god knows when they were going to tell me about it ) bloody hell $145 +GST .
I think they are having a lend of me, but I need the thing so will have to pay what they ask, I was expecting around $60-70.
Hope this gets me welding with this thing, gonna have to start making some goodies to start paying for this machine.

What is the switch Nimrod?
How many positions, how many poles, how many Amps?
I have spent a lifetime of tracking down electrical stuff.

$145 +GST doesn't sound too bad for a 150 Amp switch, K&N are a quality product.

Have you checked out the old one to see if it can be repaired Nimrod, they're a bit fiddly but I've pulled them apart before.
