Went out to Long Reef again today.
Left at 4:30 and in the water flicking out plastics by 6. We got Pike after Pike after Pike at the first spot again. Finally my uncle got a just on Flounder and Leatherjacket.
Bit of fun but the Pike were getting annoying so we went out abit further.
I was rewarded first cast and nearly fell out of the boat when the fish hit didn't i know about it. tongue.gif A nice Pan Size Snappy Tom of 35cm.

Next cast and i was on again. This time a nice 38cm Trevally. Good start.

Things went abit quiet so we went back over our last drift. I dropped a bait to the bottom to try and get a Flathead while i flicked the plastic away. Then ZzZzZ the rod goes off. Nice fish on ! After 5mins the thing got its freedom the line snapped. I don't know how i think the line is faulty cause it was snapping for no reason after that under little pressure. Not very happy i tried to re-rig quick and manged to break the tip of my rod. Arghh bugger it put the rod up in the rocket launcher and got back to flicking the plastics. Next cast and i'm on again. Didn't fight to much was starting to think it was a another Snappy Tom. I couldn't have been more wrong as i seen a rat king swimming in with the rod. I was kinda happy i knew it was undersized but i didn't care cause it was a king. Thats when the fun started. He wasn't going in the net ! He went for a few good runs which had my Sol screaming. Its a awesome reel and i really like it. Matched to my new Pflueger Trion 3-6kg. It was abit of fun and the Rod and Reel go nice together. Couldn't be happier with it. ;)
Got the King in the boat. It was just a baby but was still pretty cool. It went 48cm. Back in the water she went.

Moved back into another drift and first cast again ZzZzZ again (Did i mention i love that sound:P) This time it was a nice Snappy Tom of 40cm. my PB.

A few cast later and my Uncle is on to a Snapper. 35cm.

We went back and did a drift in close and he got a 36cm Flathead.

So after that we had a few flicks at North Head and bang he is on to another one. 32cm Snapper this time.

Well by now it was 12 so we headed in. With a good mixed bag. 4 Snappy Tom.

Best day out in ages. All fish fell to a 5" Jerkshad in Blue Pepper Neon. Besides the last Snappy Tom which fell to a 3" Minnow in Nuclear Chicken.

That same thing was happening to me & Jumpy a few months ago, I couldn't even tie a hook on without breaking the line while pulling it tight.
I thought it was something in my spit & Jumpy blamed his old man for spraying weed killer on his gear.

What brand line Fed ? I was using 8lb Lo Stretch from Platypus. It was only on my little Metalim which has a beautfiul drag on it and is still like brand new so its not that or the rod. Hmh

4 Kg ANDE pink mono Dan, it was either a bad batch or there was/has been something in the water that has weakened the line.
I broke half a dozen knots in a row just tying them, it was like cotton.
It's not as if the line was very old either, I'm respooling everything.

I just reminded myself I need to find a gizmo to hold my line under tension for respooling, the missus holding a pencil using her fingers for a brake is a joke, she just doesn't get it.

I put my spools in a bucket of water. Then run the line thought just 1 ring to the reel and hold the line lighty while reeling. Works for me. Mono only tho. I get the shop to put my braid on.

Then a line spooler is what I want, do they compensate for the increased tension as the spool gets smaller?
Seems to me they'd increase tension as the line went on, the reverse of what you'd really want.
Must have a look for them next time I'm in a tackle shop.

FED ....

You're not the one getting your fingers shaved by the spool. Not all of them have smooth surfaces on each side!
