Looks like i will be heading to Narooma next week to fish Montague Island.
I have never fished there before so any tips would be great. Were to launch? Bar crossing? Gps marks? ( I dont plan going there often so I wont take all your fish ) Pm me if you dont want to share your marks here please. Now the new marine park map says QUOTE (Restricted - coloured lime green on map) The Montague Island (inner) habitat protection zone at the northen end of Montague Island is restricted as follows between 1st November and 30th April each year to protect grey nurse sharks No fishing with bait No fishing at anchor No fishing with wire trace line No nets (but landing nets ok) So jiging for kings is ok? Can i burley? -------------------- insanity takes it's toll, I make sure I have plenty of spare change

Fisheries are a bunch of loonies with their different restrictions
Copped that same deal up @ Pt Stevens around Broughton Isle didn't matter a great deal cause still got snappers with SP's in the no bait zone Same goes with the kungs They dont sit in wun spot they'll cruise around QUOTE So jiging for kings is ok? Can i burley? Yep to both but burleying will be a waste of time If you want kungs just use your sounder & find the bait schools & if in a bait are just drop a livey into the school [use lead to get it down] Or use jigs, tis not that deep around the isle [see map] Also included is a reading off the sounder back here in botany bay

I think one day these do-gooders from the maritime will ban us completely from fishing the bays and estuaries... -------------------- FISHING beats Working

Thanks Jumpus, Will study this over the next week At least i think i know what im looking 4 John. I have a lot of success trolling Rapala hard bodies at about 4-5 knotts right up the east coast of the island ( white with red head ) the favoured colour. stay about 50-75 metres off the rocks. Also wider out around 100 + metres off the shore try a quicker troll around 7-12 knotts using the old xmas trees or a squid skirt with ball sinker shoved up it's guts, stick to the small skirts around 4" these are a cheap but very effective lure ( pink/green/blue it doesn't much matter ) . Anguish rock is a spot where you have to hang onto your rod tight, often overlooked but can produce some absolute monsters, also FIN alound Anguish. The most productive spot around the island is the north/east corner in close to 200 metres out, if the long liners are not working the area this is always my first option. The seals will claim or try to claim your catch but be patient with them cause they do this for a living, ( bastards ). Forget the west side of the island, you will only be annoyed by undersized teasers there, but if you want to have a close look at some nice reefy spots drift past the mid to lower west part of the island ( very pretty ) in close to about 50 metres off. Hope you have some success down there and I may be there myself next week, look for an old Savage lancer 5.3 with Etec on it's arse, but I don't do the island all that often these days. -------------------- Frank

Yep that would definately work as well esp with water not being that deep QUOTE I think one day these do-gooders from the maritime will ban us completely from fishing the bays and estuaries... Well I'm @ a loss to their logic because there is none Your average fisho isn't capable of catching a great deal of fish as the old saying goes 10% catch 90% of the fish & the other 90% catch the remaining 10% Those who catch on a regular basis will generally throw back most of their catch anyway & mainly fush for the sport So wot exactly are fisheries protecting other than their jobs @ our expense ?????????? -------------------- Save The Fish, Eat a Pussy |

Sir Reel, i have fished there a lot and those 2 exclusion zones were the least productive for me. (But i'm no local)My thickest king sessions have been from the NW to SW arms of the island, pretty much where that red line is in your pic. There is 1 major drop off along that run that will turn it on if they are there.... Soft plastics and yakkas or slimies...

Will have to try the repala lure again, has a great action and floats when you stop.
They say rain for wed now, hope there wrong. Unfortunatly we have Marine parks in place and have to try and keep up with the rules. Fines are to big if you dont. The map I supplied has just been isued at a few of my local tackle stores and not many peeps know of the changes, including those tackle stores further sth. is Auginish rock in the montague island south sancuary zone? Sounds like a great place to start if its not. -------------------- insanity takes it's toll, I make sure I have plenty of spare change

Unfortunatly we have Marine parks in place and have to try and keep up with the rules. Fines are to big if you dont. Dont know if it's just me ? But I fail to see how creating partial santuaries can possibly protect the fishy's Fishy's swim around from reef to reef & are only @ certain locations for short periods of time If anything I think they are a danger to small boat owners who'll go out futher in search of a catch cause their favoured spots are now santuaries As much as I think most of the fishing shows on the idiot box are a bit of a joke @ least they're teaching fisho's that it's OK to release fish & only take wot ewe need not wot ewe want On a different note I ran into sum wun last night who has moved down to your villiage [3 1/2 hr donkey ride from Sydney] Used to fush with him many moons ago -------------------- Save The Fish, Eat a Pussy |

Dont know if it's just me ? But I fail to see how creating partial santuaries can possibly protect the fishy's Fishy's swim around from reef to reef & are only @ certain locations for short periods of time If anything I think they are a danger to small boat owners who'll go out futher in search of a catch cause their favoured spots are now santuaries Yep dont think the surposed studys they clame to have done were accurate at all. Why take our safe areas away from us? Why ask us what we fish to catch and where when they take those areas away from us As much as I think most of the fishing shows on the idiot box are a bit of a joke @ least they're teaching fisho's that it's OK to release fish & only take wot ewe need not wot ewe want Wish more people only take what they need. What is someone going to do with 5 kings over 60cm? How big are there familys? Thats all they should be allowed to catch , enofgh to feed there family and thats all On a different note I ran into sum wun last night who has moved down to your villiage [3 1/2 hr donkey ride from Sydney] Used to fush with him many moons ago Ok they still fishing, whats the name of there boat? -------------------- insanity takes it's toll, I make sure I have plenty of spare change

Sometimes it can be hard to fish certain areas. This also applies to the land based fisho.
