well buggar the lot of u's i am taking the other side of this debate.
if u would like to think back to the 50s and 60s a debate raged about all the wogs coming into the country and the cry was who needs them send them back but just look what they have achieved.if there is a problem its called multiculturalism and should be scraped immediately so as to allow these new people to become fully interrogated into our society.

Paul Just another point. I take it you are a country type bloke, in otherwords you live away from a major city where the influx of migration has not had any effect on the local population. Sure enough you may see your corner shop being bought by someone not of Australian decent and a few strays here and there.
Here where I live, I take my dog for walkies every afternoon , I go approx 4 blocks either way, different ways now and then to break the monotany.
All during the walk every afternoon, every single person I see ( except one old granpar that still lives in the area ) is not of australian descent, and this encludes ( believe it or not ) every single car that drives by. Mostly of asian, some of islander and some of aribic background, all nice people i'm sure, and I don't have a problem with any individual or rase, and nod my head and say hello to all I pass ( except lebonese ) but as I said before enough is enough.
Go for a walk through most Sydney outer suburbs now days and you would be lucky to see one shop that is run by and have aussie signs, if you can't read chinese or canteneze or whatever the language is you don't know what the shop is selling.
The cities are very much over run with non english speaking people, and they breed like rabbits, and our resorces simple are not coping.
I don't know what the population of Sydney is at the moment Around 3 million something. Still living with a sewerage system built when the entire population of Australia was 7 million.
I repeat THE RESORCES IN THE CITIES CAN NOT COPE.

with each new wave of immigration we get both good and bad.the trouble is we tend to dwell on the bad.with the good comes new ideas and better ways of doing things and this is where all effort and resources should be aimed.
with the problem of infrastructure this can be and will be solved once we as voters put in a government that is prepared to think past the next election.

Frank I'm i Canberra, at the moment we have around 3 hundred thousand people here so it is very easy to spot new comers like the Somalians that are moving in and lots of them, most are nice people hard working, they don't wont to be broke and starving like they were back in there home land, so they work just like the new comers before them and that helps to move the country forward.

Wot shits me about that generation & the Aust govenment is that a very large % of those immigrants went back to their old countries & because they worked here for 5 years [ I think the term was] they are entitled to draw a retirement pension even though they dont live here nor have any intententions of returning.

Now the current crop of immigrants & I'm refering to the illegals get everything bar a butler to attend to their needs & wants

but as said before n the last 50 years nt much has really changed apart from the desal plant at kurnel and i worked there while it was being built.......

as some of you may know i train and work in law enforcement, and people say that there are good and bad in every race, but while the bad may be a minority say speak very loudly for a minority,

but what concerns me the most is the amazingly large amount of foreign owned companies that are now in this country,

im sure i could count on my hands the amount of australian owned big business that its 100% australian owned..

the best way to bring a country to its knees is by controlling the majority of big business and imports/exports.... now think long and hard and you will know which race im am talking about... hint : think of past events.

Australian polly's think about 2day and 2morrow they dont think about next month and that has been our problem for a long time,

I try not to swear. It is just the way I am. Now being said I am no angel behind the wheel of a car, but that is another story.

Ozman's flag got it right... there's too many people here and the infrastructure hasn't kept up with the population.

Apart from what words are on the flag I still would not agree with preventing people from entering the country to try and scratch a living out of this land. It can be tough at times when trying to save some money for something. We have to have a balance and this can be a real problem when one side is heavier then the other side.

We do need a balance of people to come to our shores. It can be hard to get that balance right and sometimes people tend to group around each other of similar background. But after the initial time spent here and there more are intergrated else where. It does take time and will take time.

No goverment that I know off has ever created something in advance for a just to be ready scenario.

Regarding Our National Anthem

I am sorry, but after hearing they want to sing the National Anthem in Arabic - enough is enough. No where or at no other time in our nation's history, did they sing it in Italian, Japanese, Polish, Irish (Celtic), German, Portuguese, Greek, or any other language because of immigration. It was written in English, and should be sung word for word the way it was written.

The news broadcasts even gave the translation -- not even close.

Well it seems this topic has opened a few people up, I,m not against immigration only against the illegal ones like over the past 15 month we have had 70 plus loaded boats all by smugglers.
My belief is they are smugglers, and they should be dealt with the full strenght of the law and if the death penalty was stilll around use it.
As they are as bad as drug smugglering only they are dealing with people lives, and can wreck a country with the shit they try to bring across our borders, in people that are know criminals or have been listed as a threat by the federal police. Now that is what gets me, and how F___ relaxed our PM and present Government is about it,just turn them around at sea with fresh supplies to return to where they came from is my belief.Make it they have to apply legally.
I might sound harsh but I have friends that are from Britian and Europe that have been trying for years and all they get is reject or a 3 year working pass and we let these others in.
