Hi All,

Day off on Friday, so decided what better way to spend the day then taking my old man fishing.

Packed the boat and off we went at 10am. In the water by 10:30 and fishing at 11am.

First 3 casts and and 3 fish. All throw backs but fun.

Around midday started getting some big bites and wooppiiee...a 30cm bream which weighed around 1/2 kilo.
Dad then started on the action and got a 28cm bream and more and more and more. 2 nice 33 & 35 cm tailors and 10 whiting. Dad lost a huge fish which i believe must have weight at least 5kg. Got the net ready but the line snapped b4 i could grab it. Must have been a jewfish. The longer we stayed the more the bites. It was a fantastic day again in glorious sunshine.

All up we took home 12 legal sized bream, 2 tailors and 10 whiting. Threw back at least 40 fish during the course of our 5 hour session. What a wonderful way to spend the day and believe me dad and i were using 2 rods each which kept us pretty busy.

I tell ya, fishing has never felt greater.

Good story Majed, sounds like you had a great day out, where did you launch the boat and where did you fish, sounds like a great days outing, these frosty mornings do turn in to good relaxing days.

Launced at Picnic Point and fished at Moon Bay. Used prawns and chicken breast fillets for bait.
It was great weather and hardly any boats. Beats working any day.

I said a few months back May onwards is my favourite time of the year to catch fish.

It's when the larger fish come on a mate fished the spot I took him to both days on the weekend & bagged out both times on snapper.

See all you guys you dont have to get up B4 the sparrows start farting to catch fish Maged went out in the middle of the day & caught fish, I rarely ever venture out till after lunch & allways pick my tides.

Onya Majed well done what line class are you using ?????????

Well done Majed, you know I've driven past that spot countless times and never thought to drop a line in.
I went past there on Monday after being in the Bay for a zero result, think I'll stop next time.
Did any of the fish have 2 heads or anything like that?

Using rope I see laugh.gif laugh.gif

In time I'll convert you have no fear off that, you'll find going down to a lighter line will produce better bags not to mention the fun you will have in the process.

I use max 3 kg line when Breaming & I think you've seen pics of the Brimus which I've caught they're not small fush.

That mate I was refering to earlier is CATCH22 I took him out a few times but barred him from bring his rods on the boat he used mine & I had to dong him on the head quite a few times till he learnt not to touch my drag settings he learnt.

Now he's been going out on his own & getting quite a few fish as well he's converted to lighter lines as little lead as possible, I told him to do a report but he dosen't know how to attach images I'll sort him out

I have never used any line under 12lb...I assumed that the stronger the line the better. I also use a small long shank hook and a small sinker, ans swivel. How does a 3kg line go with the larger breams, tailor and flathead?

Fishing line in good condition is very hard to break through a rod Majed, grab your rod & reel, tie the line off somewhere and give it a go.

Bream no probs I dont even bother using a heavier leader
Flatones will bite through if you let them shake theirs heads up on the surface
Tailor why in F***s name do you want to catch them for ??? laugh.gif laugh.gif they'll bite through 12 il line just as easy as 3 kg line

Just a word of caution if you're going to use 3kg line make sure the rod is not a broom handle it's all about balancing your outfits & the most important aspect of all is a smooth drag system on the reel once you've got the gear in order you'll have a ball.

You'd be surprised how much pressure you can put on a fish with 3 kg tacle Never Ever Touch the Drag once it's set up

1st thing novices will do when a fish wants to take line is to tighten up the drag Thats a NO NO let the fish run it'll tire quick smart, when gaining line back onto your spool you can use your Smelly Finger on the line to add extra pressure on the fish BUT if it wants to run again release your Smelly Finger pressure.

Back when they were plentiful one of my favourite forms of fishing was to cast lures @ small yellowfin & Stripped tuna schools used either 2 kg or 3 kg outfits & used to have a ball now these fish scream off @ 100 mph unlike the more senile Bream.

Geez here's a old pic thats one of the original ABU Cardinal reels brings back good memories top reels unlike the crak they bring out these days thats the 54 & I had the 1st Cardinal 52 in Australia still got it I think used it to fish 1 kg line class

I'm going out in Port Hacking on Friday evening, for some bream fishing. Guess I need to downsize my line from 30lb to 6lb, after reading JG's post.

That pic looks like a young Don King.
