After seeing the Bay yesterday, I just had to get out today. Launched at Sylvania Waters and headed out towards the heads. The water was the clearest I have seen in many years. Almost as clear as Pt Hacking.
Anchored near the bommie, and you could see all the sandstone ledges and kelp, snady bottom etc, so anchoring up was easy. Burleyed for an hour or so and had lots and lots of sweep and bream in the trail. Landed an undersized snapper and a 30cm bream on the new graphite. Great rod!! Nothing decent in the 2 hours, so I headed off to the aquarium they call the oil wharf. Baited up three rods and they all went off at once. Great tussle with the slimies. I didn't have a sabiki, so just used a single hook floating bait. Went back to two rods, as I couldn't keep up. Then down to one rod. Landed 15 big slimies and a lonely leatherjacket before calling it quits. Tried some plastics for flatties, on the way back, but no good. I need to service the rollers on my trailer. Boat went great. Forgot my sounder. Forgot my GPS. Remembered my hat |

The sweep were my target species - forgot to tell you that. The other problem was that I forgot my paintbrush ... I mean sounder, so I couldn't get the art right. Always a next time
I will pick you up next time. My boat - my rules. No farting, no playing tricks, no burping. We will be out there to have fun. |

well dune kkw, now about those rollers, loose them and ask Frank very nicely to fit up a set of skids it will make it so much easy for you to get the boat on and off.

Rather than start a new report, I will continue on with this one, as the reslults were much the same.
Went out this morning, and it looked promising at 8am. Couldn't risk anchoring near the bommie, as there were some biggus swells rolling through, and one of them broke half way across the entrance, in a line from Watts Reef to Bare Island. Not a touch around the oil wharf, so I headed off to a very small patch of reef towards the third runway. Fish sounded from 10ft down, to 45 ft. Chopped up a few slimies and pillies and dropped some in for burley. Well,, the wind started getting stronger and stronger, from the SW, and the chop got higher and higher. It was a long way to cross BB back to the shelter of Towra, but we persisted for another half an hour. The rods started to go off, and the reddies started coming on the chew. Problem was, they were all 2- 3cm too small. Got about 8 and a solitary bream. Also landed half a dozen tailer and one flattie before calling it quits. All fish were released. Had a hull bashing trip across the bay and did a bit of boat surfing. Then it started to rain ...... Not to worry. Had a great few hours on the water, caught a few fish and got out of the house for a while. Only saw one other boat out. A 42ft cruiser heading out to Towra. Water was 62.4F. I reckon there will be a few nice fish around, after the swells settle down. Today was my last day out, before heading north. P.S. No Ankeys were lost during the making of this report.
